Indians Tidbits (2010 season)

If there is a God, Santana will be the second coming of Johnny Bench. I don't think my sanity can take another "top" prospect flopping. If he does indeed work out, Shapiro can rest on fleecing the Dodgers for this guy, if nothing else, when he gets kicked upstairs.

One more thing. As long as Kerry Wood continues to cash his bloated checks, he should be forced to enter games to the "If You Like Pina Coladas" song.

speaking of busts

how about our 2007 1st round pick (#13) Beau Mills

hitting a robust .214 with 3 HR in 140 ABs in AA

another fine Shapiro draft selection

hes pretty much been a flop since he made the jump to AA, hitting around .250 with an OBP barely at .300 and a rather mediocre SLUG% for a supposed power hitter

:p

But seriously...

It's http://www.buckeyeplanet.com/forum/...d-unreal-expectations-due-self-promotion.html as the clear #1, but he's not a position of need (Catcher, Santana). After that it looks like some good right-handed pitching.

As for this year, this is now a full-on developmental year. Time to keep playing these young kids everyday and take our lumps.
I was talking about the 2011 draft when they'll likely get a shot at fucking up the #1 overall pick.

MLB Draft 2010 -- Keith Law: Looking at the top prospects in the 2011 draft, including Anthony Rendon - ESPN

I've been writing for months now about the stacked college crop for the 2011 draft, which is particularly loaded with high-end starters who project, or could project, as No. 1 starters. The group is headed by Vanderbilt's Sonny Gray, who is followed closely by teammate Jack Armstrong, UCLA's Gerrit Cole, Virginia's Danny Hultzen, Kentucky's Alex Meyer, Texas' Taylor Jungmann, and TCU southpaw Matt Purke (who'll be age-eligible as a sophomore), with another dozen college arms who'd be first-rounders in a typical draft.

Anthony Rendon 3B Rice looks like the top dog in the 11 draft

Anthony Rendon - Baseball Rumor Mill

Scouting Report: Rendon has one of the best swings I've seen on a college hitter, with excellent hip rotation and strong, quick hands. He pairs it with good pitch recognition and a patience that's born both of a good eye and the fact that opposing pitchers don't want to pitch to him right now. He taps his front foot twice and gets it down a little late, but everything about his transfer and swing is quick and forceful enough that it doesn't seem to affect him against college pitching. His plate coverage is good, and he can shorten his swing to square up a ball up in the zone. He's a solid defender at third with an above-average arm and good reads.

| The Plain DealerSome Indians fans have lost faith in Mark Shapiro's ability to build the team into a winner. In response to the story Cleveland Indians' flaws are evident in loss to Kansas City Royals under bright afternoon sun, cleveland.com reader jagroar doesn't think the Indians can win consistently until major changes occur. This reader writes,

The Tribe desperately needs a new owner who will gut the inept front office and rebuild the franchise from top to bottom. An owner who will make a total commitment to turning the Tribe into a legitimate playoff contender. The Dolan/Shapiro fiasco has to end.

I really have a hard time getting excited about players in college and even in the minor leagues who are putting up good numbers as a pitcher or as an everyday player. I guess it harbors back to so many "can't miss" prospects that put up big numbers in the minors only to get to Cleveland and put up the same numbers for perhaps one season and then go to the tank. I even worry about Santana until he is in the big leagues.

Alex White promoted to AA, hes doing well (so far)

Chisenhall (another former 1st rounder) hits the DL

Indians Prospect Insider: Alex White Promoted To Akron, Chisenall Put On DL

High-A Kinston right-handed pitcher Alex White has been promoted to Double-A Akron.

White went 2-3 with a 2.86 ERA in eight starts for the K-Tribe this season. His 2.86 ERA is currently the fifth lowest in the Carolina League and his .204 batting average against is the third lowest in the league (second among starters). hE gave up just 14 earned runs in 44 innings of work for Kinston, striking out 41. In his last start for Kinston on Tuesday he gave up just one earned run on three hits over six innings to pick up the win against Salem.

For the time being, White takes the roster spot of Akron third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall who has been put on the disabled list with a sore shoulder..
