Indians Tidbits (2010 season)

That's not true. Many of the guys behind the runs in '05 and '07 were acquired by trading off vets. I'd also say it's way too early to write off the guys acquired for C.C. (who hasn't been that great thus far in '10), Lee (who can't stay healthy) and V-Mart (who isn't exactly tearing it up in Beantown). I have my doubts about LaPorta from what I've seen, but Brantley is still plenty young and has potential. Donald may get a shot sooner rather than later. The haul from the Lee trade won't have a chance to be fully realized for another couple years (Knapp was the prize) and Carrasco has been solid in C-Bus thus far. Victor brought a middle reliever currently being wasted as a starter, but the prize was Hagadone who is a year or two away. Given the rate Victor's production is falling off, that trade may not be nearly as bad as many of the naysayers predicted. Also, lets not forget that the crown jewel of the farm system (Santana) was acquired for a veteran.

Now, on to the current Indians, Pronk has been much less awful lately, so that's nice. I don't expect Crowe to continue to tear it up like he has these first couple games, but if he can develop into a nice 4th OF/occasional starter, it would be a huge plus. Carmona is looking good again so far, tonight. Hopefully Laffey (who is excelling in middle relief like most of called for last year) holds them.
I don't want to get into a memory contest with you because yours is a lot better than mine but I don't seem to remember that trades that we made for the guys in 05 and 07. I will agree with you with some the guys that we picked up in the Martinez, Lee, and CC trades but out all of all of those deals I don't see anyone helping us in the very near future with the possible exception of Santana (if they ever bring him up) and you have to remember that the numbers he is putting up are in the minor leagues and there are plenty of guys who were cannot miss prospects... that missed. Donald might become a decent player but if Cabrera would not have suffered the injury in Donald would still be in Columbus and Valbuena would still be the starting second baseman.

I won't get into mentioning the other young guys that you mentioned but they are doing us no good sitting down in the minor leagues while we are in a rebuilding phase Hell, you might as well bring them up and see what they can do. Yeah, I know about the psyche bit and everything but I would rather have younger players out there trying to do something then watching while we are putting on the field day after day. I noticed that Cabrera got injured on a pop up close to second base when JP ran into him. What the hell was JP doing over around second base. I have no idea and why have they hung on him for so long.

most of the reason that some young guys are not up is that the team will lose a year of service on them if they bring them up before June. Later in the summer a lot of AAA guys will be up. it's a financial move more than anything, which for a small market rebuilding club, is important.

Not a pop-up. They had a shift on, and the ball was grounded up the middle where Peralta and Cabrera both dove for it. Cabrera actually managed to snag the ball, but Peralta tried to avoid a head-on collision at the last second and instead his knee went right into Cabrera's extended arm. :(

Our pitching stunk from the 6th inning on. Huff wasn't doing terrible, but the outfield was definitely helping him. I can't say the same for the infield on the 3rd base side, though...that missed pop-up was inexcusable. Peralta and Donald were both looking at it as it came down, neither called it, so no one went for it! Marson did not impress me either. A ball slipped under and behind him, and despite having a runner on first (who got to second standing) he showed almost no hustle getting back to the ball. I can tell we've got a long way to go with this team.

I did have fun talking with a couple guys sitting right behind me, though. Recalling the glory days of the 90s with the Alomars, Omar, and Jim.

Sizemore placed on DL - The News-Herald Sports : Breaking news coverage for Northern Ohio

The Indians placed Grady Sizemore on the disabled list Wednesday with a bone bruise on his left knee. To replace Sizemore on the roster, the Indians recalled outfielder Shelley Duncan from Columbus.

Sizemore injured the knee sliding into a base Sunday in Baltimore. In 33 games this year, Sizemore is hitting .211 with no home run and 13 RBI.

Duncan, who was signed by the Indians last winter as a minor-league free agent, was hitting .301 at Columbus, with six home runs and 34 RBI in 146 at-bats.
