Indians Tidbits (2009 season)

Three by the great Peralta. Anybody see why I don't want him as a part of any long term plans? The guy is the walking , tubby, definition of a marginal major league player.

Might as well slap Marte at 3rd

sadly Marte is probably better defensively

i don't doubt for one second that marte is better defensively at 3rd.

however, peralta's offensive surge once the season was over will be enough for cleveland to clutch to him until he reaches free agency. i think they could get a very good return for him this offseason.

Losses are god right now. Anything that improves the chances that we're nearing the end of the Eric Wedge era, I'm all for...

Carmona walks five in just over six innings. :shake:

The Associated Press: Indians' Sizemore to miss rest of season

CLEVELAND — Cleveland Indians center fielder Grady Sizemore will miss the remainder of the season because of soreness in his left elbow, an injury that will require surgery.

No date been set for the surgery.

Sizemore has been bothered by soreness in the elbow for most of the season. He was on the disabled list from May 31 to June 23. The three-time All-Star, a .279 career hitter going into the season, is batting .248 with 18 home runs and 64 RBIs.

Grady shutting down is a very good thing. Get the surgery and hopefully return to form next year. It gives Brantley, who has looked very good so far, a path to plenty of playing time.

If Brantley plays well, the OF is gonna be crowded next spring with Grady, Big League Choo, LaPorta and Brantley. Makes me wonder if LaPorta may get a look at 1B if Brantley wins a spot.

I think what position LaPorta plays next season might depend on what they do with Marte. They just seem reluctant to let him go and I do not think that he is going to play third base. That is reserved for JP until his contract runs out in the next millennium.

so far hes hit in every game since callup (.391 AVG)

Tony Sipp has looked good, since August 1 had has only allowed 1 run in 16 appearances, lowering his ERA to 3.19

I don't think Marte has shown enough to warrant bringing him back. He had one good week, outside of that, he was the same old Marte. They nearly cut ties with him this year, but brought him back for one more shot. I don't think he's coming back.

I'm not sure what they'll do for 1B. Maybe LaPorta if Brantley can lock down a starting spot. Maybe Jordan Brown, though that doesn't seem thay likely. Maybe they'll go the cheap vet FA route.

Indians call up catcher Marson from Triple-A - USATODAY.com

CLEVELAND (AP) — The Cleveland Indians have called up catcher Lou Marson from Triple-A Columbus and put him in the starting lineup against the Texas Rangers.

Marson was one of four players acquired from Philadelphia when the Indians traded 2008 AL Cy Young winner Cliff Lee and outfielder Ben Francisco to the Phillies on July 29. Cleveland also got right-hander Carlos Carrasco, infielder Jason Donald and Class A right-hander Jason Knapp.

Marson played in four games for the Phillies in April, batting .235. In 91 games between Triple-A Lehigh Valley and Columbus, he batted .277 with two home runs and 33 RBIs.

Indians Prospect Insider: Indians Callup Romero, Not Brown, From Columbus
The Indians will make a roster move on Tuesday, a move expected to be the final move of the season where they will purchase the contract of infielder Niuman Romero and call him up to Cleveland.

First off, congrats to Romero. He is realizing his dream to get a big league shot, so I wish him the best and have no ill will toward him.

That said, with this move, outfielder/first baseman Jordan Brown WILL NOT be called up. This is very disappointing, as he did everything humanly possible to get the much deserved callup for a cup of coffee this year. Heck, if anything, just to reward the guy for a fantastic year in Triple-A where he won the league batting title.

Brown deserves better than this if you ask me. I'll have a piece on him sometime this week sort of going more in depth on the situation as I had a chance to talk to him at length over the weekend as I was in Columbus.

By the way, Josh Barfield is toast.

Calling up Romero over him puts the final nail in his coffin with the Indians.
