Indians Tidbits (2009 season)

Trevor Crowe > Matt LaPorta clearly

you would think if you are "building for the future" it would be a smart idea to have your best prospect up and playing.....

good thing we have a group of geniuses running this club
Yeah, it's kind of puzzling. The excuse is that he can play CF and Grady's shoulder is too sore to play there. Well, if that's the case, why isn't he on the DL? It's not as if there's anything to play for, he hasn't improved since returning. Put his ass on the DL and let the kids play out the year. This organization is fucking retarded about many, many things.

Sounds like a three team deal with Boston Cleveland and another team may be in the works. Victor to Boston and Buchholz to Cleveland is being rumored with some other players involved. Let's hope we don't get fleeced!

The indians are very puzzling indeed. Laporta should be up and playing everyday. Trevor Crowe is waiver fodder as far as I'm concern, can't hit for average or power defensive outfielders are a thing of the past. I was one of the very few that is taking a wait and see approach on the Lee to see how Carrasco and Knapp develop but knowing the Tribe they'll fizzle out due to poor player development. I love the idea of getting Buchholtz but we better get another solid prospect in return for an all-star catcher. Wedge sucks!

buckholz for victor straight up is a very good deal for cleveland. i love victor, he's probably my favorite indian, but he's 31, and his days behind the plate are numbered to say the least. his value as a 1B is much lower, and that will be where he ultimately plays in the very near future.

As for player development, it does seem rather odd to me that cleveland appears to be loaded with AAAA players. Guys that are good in the minors but fizzle with the big club. I really do wonder how much of that falls on Eric Wedge.

I would be ecstatic if they could get that deal done. It could set up an intriguing young future rotation of Buchholz, Carmona, Carrasco, Huff & Rondon with some other possibilities available in the system.

That's not gonna go over well at all. I really wanted Buckholz, but the Sawks have been stubborn about trading him. Hagadone has a lot of potential, but has already had Tommy John surgery and Masterson is a spot starter. If that's the return...ouch.

Apparently there will be two more players coming to Cleveland. We have complete opposite viewpoints on both of these trades. You seemed okay with the Lee return and I was disappointed while I'm okay with this one and you seem disappointed.

I was okay with the Lee trade, but I wasn't thrilled. I was okay with it because I expected a nice haul from Victor. The fact that they're getting a pitcher fresh off TJ surgery and a spot starter is pretty disappointing to me. Oh well.

Eh, at least it's another promising young arm (though sure to draw ire when people see his minor league numbers this year). I like Hagadone's potential with two + pitches (fastball/slider). He's pitching well in LoA ball recovering from the surgery. I'm underwhelmed by Masterson. He might be a decent back of the rotation guy.

Basically, I was hoping Victor would net a near ML ready starter of some value...Buckholz. I knew they were hesitant to part with him as part of a package for Halladay, but thought they might be willing to go straight up for Victor. Guess not. :ohwell:

Hagadone is a good get if there's no lingering arm issues, Masterson is filler and I know little of Price.

masterson is hardly filler. he's the best arm out of cleveland's pen as of right now. he's been a little messed up from being a starter/pen guy going back and forth. he's a #3 or #4 starter if they get him more consistent.

the fact that victor is in an absolute offensive nosedive killed whatever small chance there was that cleveland could get buckholz.

actually, they are clearing $9 million off the books next year, which is what lee's option was.

as for contributing prospects, do you know how much of a contribution cliff lee will make to the indians after 2010 if he wasn't traded? none.

to say cleveland got fleeced is simply whining for the sake of whining.

Hey, I don't have a dog in this fight. I'm looking at it from an outsiders perspective.

Wow 9 Mil, that's a shitload of money for a #1 starter.

As far as Lee after 2010, at least they would have gotten an extra first round pick.

giving the indians an extra 1st round pick is like giving one to the oakland raiders. cleveland is far better off taking the somewhat established minor league talent.
