Indians Tidbits (2009 season)

Phillies offered J.A. Haap and their top OF prospect for Halladay and it was turned down. Dodgers seem ready to offer a big haul of prospects for a FOR pitcher. Red Sox offered Buchholz for V-Mart straight up and it was turned down, and i'm not sure the Yankees have any prospects worth noting. Oh and the Rays have been rumored to be shopping Wade Davis their top pitching prospect for another starter.

I just don't see the difference between this year and any year in the past.

and none of the offers you noted come close to what cleveland got for CC, or even in the arena of what cleveland got in the bartolo colon trade. and, i would posit that the CC trade was almost an anomaly due to one team blowing their wad.

so yes, the front end teams are not mortgaging the farm anymore.

I just don't get what you're saying. We got Laporta, their 1st or 2nd best prospect and Brantley a top 10 prospect then 2 throw ins. I fail to see how that's different than what is being offered today.

I say we just wait and see what Halladay and Lee bring in a trade.

brantley was marginally a top 10 prospect. the other 2 guys were throw ins at best. and, as i said, deals like that won't be happening this year, and certainly won't be happening for lee or vmart. that's the reality of the trade market this year. halladay may result in such a deal, but he will be the only one.

I don't get what point you're trying to make. We both agree they got a good haul for C.C. Let's see the trades the Tribe have made thus far this season:

DeRosa for the Cardinals #3 and #5 prospects

Betancourt for the Rockies #5 prospect

Garko for the Giants #9 prospect

Sounds just on par with any other year. You could very well be right I just don't see any evidence that the trade market has changed. Let's wait and see what Lee and/or Victor give us.

Fuck these guys. Now they start winning. Just in time to save everyone's job. Just like we all predicted. Get ready for more of the same next year.
This second half run (ok, it's only 5 in a row) could be seen coming a mile away.

Not only is this the norm for a Wedge team- they heat up as the summer goes on, but this year, the 2nd half is when the team is getting a little bit healthier. Plus, the offense has been very good and will likely continue to be very good. Eventually the pitching will average out and they are going to start winning some games.

And everyone is happy...:roll2:

Not to be a pain, but, Sabathia is not equal to Halladay/Lee... they have an additional year on their deals... they should be getting a lot more for them and they aren't.
