Reliever Tom Mastny was sent down to Class AAA Buffalo after Saturday's victory over Toronto.

Mastny had a 10.80 ERA in two appearances covering 1 2/3 innings.
Mastny had been recalled from Buffalo on April 15, the day Borowski was placed on the disabled list.

"It's just a matter of getting innings," Mastny said. "Our starters are going so deep into the games, it's hard to get everybody innings out there. It's early; they're going to need people later on.

"It's a matter of going down there and getting consistent work."

Mastny said he was told who would be called up to take his roster spot, but declined to name him, saying Wedge should do it. Candidates to replace Mastny are Josh Barfield or Michael Aubry.

I found this rather interesting that it looks like the Indians are going to bring up another position player from Buffalo. I have no idea which one of the two will be brought up but I guess it would be Barfield since he does have major-league experience. Seems like the infield positions are getting pretty crowded if this does happen. I wonder if this is an indication of a possible trade.

There is no way that they can send Laffey down and keep Byrd in the starting rotation. That would be absolutely stupid but knowing Wedgie and Shapiro I wouldn't put anything past them. The latest on Westbrook is that they think he will be ready to join the starting rotation again at the end of May.

I don't know how effective Byrd would be coming out of the bullpen plus the reason that they just sent Mastny down was because there is no real need for a long reliever. I would has to think that they would not release/trade Byrd because you never know if one of the other starters might go down during the season. They need to keep him around for a safety net but he would have to get some work somehow and the Indians really don't use long relievers that much. Maybe again something is going on but I can't think of any team that would want PB.

After Matsny getting sent down I could see Aubry getting the callup for a few weeks, and then moving Byrd to the bullpen at the end of the month. You just don't play around with someone pitching as well as Laffey. Plus Laffey proved he was good enough last year.

I know it and you know it that Laffey should not be sent down both do the egg-heads in Cleveland know that. The only problem with bringing snow Aubrey is that he plays 1B and he has not played that much this season in Buffalo. I don't know if he was hurt at the beginning of the season or what. I think we have enough 1B on the roster and don't know why they would bring up another one. Really have no idea who they might call up. Maybe we are in for a big surprise:)

Outfielder Jason Tyner has been recalled from Class AAA Buffalo. He takes the roster spot of reliever Tom Mastny, who was optioned to Buffalo on Saturday night.

The speedy Tyner was batting .234 in 31 games for the Bisons. He has six steals in six attempts.

Tyner was a non-roster invitee to the Tribe's major league camp. He played for the Twins last year.

Mastny had been with Cleveland since April 15. He appeared in two games, giving up two runs in 1 2/3 innings.

Has some major-league experience and can play all 3 outfield positions. Has some pretty good speed and he has been swinging the bat in the last couple weeks a lot better than what his average indicates. Has some pretty good speed so probably will be used as a situational player. I cannot believe this is a long-term callup.

the fact that he can play quite a few different positions and runs fairly well makes me think that this is a straight call up for interleague play next week, as cleveland will be on the road for a few of those.

CLEVELAND: Here he comes again: Mr. (Almost) Perfect.
There is an argument to be made that nobody has pitched with more expertise or effectiveness than Cliff Lee in his first six starts of the season.
He will go to the mound again tonight in the second game of a doubleheader against the Blue Jays, hoping to improve on a 6-0 record and an 0.81 earned-run average.
''I'm just focused on my next start,'' Lee said. ''I get a game plan, and I use it to attack the hitters. I have to get past my last start; I can't dwell on it. When you do, that is when things blow up on you.''
Ask Lee why he has been virtually unhittable and he will say, ''I'm commanding my fastball better and staying ahead in the count.''
Sounds too simple, but for a starter whose pitches move with the funkiness associated with being left-handed, those fundamentals can make a huge difference. Also, Lee realizes he is in a rarified zone that probably won't last forever.

Sunday's Indians-Blue Jays game, postponed because of rain, was rescheduled as part of a traditional doubleheader beginning at 4:05 p.m. today. The second game will begin about 30 minutes after the end of the opener.
Gates open at 3:30.

CLEVELAND It has been more than a decade since Mother's Day was just another day for Jason Tyner.

The 31-year-old Indians outfielder was drafted in the first round by the New York Mets on June 2, 1998. His mother, Juliet, lost her battle with breast cancer and died two weeks later.

"Mother's Day is always a tough holiday," Tyner said after Sunday's Mother's Day game against Toronto at Progressive Field was postponed due to rain. "It used to be a lot tougher. Now I have a wife (Annie). I just make sure to take care of her."

The winter after his mother died, Jason Tyner helped establish the Juliet Tyner Memorial Scholarship Foundation.

Each Mother's Day, the foundation awards four $1,500 scholarships to deserving high school student-athletes from southeast Texas.

Word is that Sowers will be brought back up to start the game on Friday against Cincinnati. This shuffling the players back and forth to the minors is a little ridiculous. I think MLB should look into what is going on and make some sort of rule change so that guys don't have to be on yo-yo. I don't know what it would be maybe perhaps allowing teams to carry an extra pitcher.

The Tribe has been forced to yoyo these pitchers right now with the double headers. If any team can handle going 6 or 7 deep in the rotation it is the Tribe. Just be happy that they have guys with options so they can send them down when they need to. Even if they had an extra roster spot for a pitcher you aren't going to carry a 6th starter just in case you have a double header. Guys like Sowers need to stay fresh at AAA. If you are going to change a rule you would need to let a team call up a AAA starter to take a turn around a double header.
