Indians Tidbits (2008 season)

"I don't think it's that easy," Wedge said. "I think it would be tough for him to look you in the eye and tell you the reason he hasn't hit is his shoulder.
"I don't think it's that serious. I think there have been days it's gotten in his way and bothered him, but for two months, it's hard for me to believe that that's it."
I can believe it so why can't Wedge. Put him on the DL and that way you can bring Choo up and still give Marte some more playing time to see what he brings to the table before you release him.
After Julio gave up five runs on six hits in 1 2/3 innings on Friday against Texas in relief of injured Fausto Carmona, the Indians shuffled their bullpen by sending Jensen Lewis to Class AAA Buffalo. When asked how Julio avoided the purge, manager Eric Wedge said Julio had one of the best arm's in the pen and had taken one for the team in relief of Carmona.
Wedge changed his mind after Tuesday's victory.
"We like his arm," said Wedge, "He had some success early for us. Looking at things as we move forward and try to put our bullpen back together, we felt it was a move we had to make."
What did Wedge just say:huh: he seems to be talking out of both sides of his mouth but what is new.

wedge spends every day with hafner. he has a better grasp of the situation than you do. he doesn't need to believe what you do.

cleveland has been trying to ride the hot hand in the pen all season. that's why they called up some buffalo guys. wedge was going to support lugo after a bad outing because he wasn't the one making the call on him getting DFA'd. it's common sense.

Also, I know its been discussed here before, but I'm also now in favor of sending down Cabrera. His fielding was his only bright spot yet he had 2 potentially costly errors yesterday. His average just sits in the upper .180s. Bring up Barfield, give him another chance, and let Cabrera work on his swing in AAA.
Actually Cabrera only had one error last night. He was charged with two because Garko has got to be taught to take his sunglasses to 1st base in the twilight. Saying that, I agree that Cabrera needs to be sent to Buffalo if nothing more to get his confidence back and see what Barfield can do in Cleveland. I know he is only hitting 240 in Buffalo but if he could hit above 200 in Cleveland that would be an improvement over Cabrera. I just don't know if Barfield can play shortstop if we are going to DH JP for awhile.

I think you must be in love with Wedge:biggrin2: just because he has a better grasp of Hafner because he is around him every day does not mean that he would have the same grasp as another manager. I am just stating my opinion. Thank you.

Also, Lugo has really made a significant contribution to the bullpen this season. Thank goodness he is gone. Maybe your guy Wedge listened to his pitching coach and said bye-bye to Lugo.

I'm far from a Wedge lover. However, I do have enough common sense to read between the lines.

1. you are just stating your opinion. Fine. You opinion is obviously that Wedge is wrong because he doesn't see what you see, despite knowing far more than you'll ever know on Hafner's condition. If that's your premise, then it's tough to argue with such brilliant deductive reasoning.

2. Wedge doesn't decide who gets DFA'd and who hangs around. Wedge wasn't going to throw Lugo under the bus for a bad outing. He gave his little song and dance number and when it came time to make a call, he clearly didn't oppose Lugo being sent packing. And how do you know that Carl Willis was clamoring for Lugo to be booted? It seems you're simply making dumb blanket statements with no way to back them up.

more than you'll ever know on Hafner's condition
Personally, I don't care what Hafner's condition is. All I know is that he cannot play one freaking game in the field and he has not hit for about 1 year. A DH is supposed to drive in a lot of runs and Hafner has not been doing that. Maybe he needs a rest and if you do not think that Wedge has quite a bit of input into that decision then...

I also did not say this but I think a pitching coach would have the manager's ear when it comes to how a guy is pitching and if Wedge does not have a lot of input into who goes and who stays the front office must not have much confidence in him.

I have never seen a baseball game in my life so forgive my ignorance. I guess I will just believe everything you post.

you don't have to believe everything I post. Just show some basic common sense instead of throwing out foolish statements in attempt to flame eric wedge. but, if you wish to continue as if you are infinately more knowledgeable than the manager then proceed.

You had better not second-guess any manager/coach/GM of any sports team because they know much more than you about that sport.

and this is where your reading comprehension skills come in to play. Clearly I'm referring to wedge's knowledge of the hafner situation, which i have referred to several times in this discussion.
