Indians Tidbits (2008 season)

And he promptly got picked off after his hit.
What would you expect He doesn't know what to do when he gets on base. I cannot believe that they are still keeping them up there. Just let him go! Also, I cannot believe that they could not find a better utility infielder then Carroll. G?mez from last year at least could hit the ball.

I think it is obvious that they need to bring Raffy in only when they have more than a one round lead. On to Cincinnati where a another sweep is possible. I just worry about Sowers pitching tomorrow. I mean how much longer can the starting pitching last.

It is time for a new closer. I don't care who it is just not Raffy.

Shapiro refuses to admitt that he made a mistake trading for him, thats why he is still on the roster

Koybayashi is now 2 for 2 in save opportunities, and has a 1.86 ERA. Plus all sorts of experience closing in Japan. He gets my vote. I am NOT looking forward to the return of Joe Blow.

Fransisco needs to start every day now. Some other guys (Peralta, Garko, even Hafner to a slight extent) are showing some life at the plate too which is nice to see.

I agree that Marte needs to go. Waste of a roster space. Along with Breslow.

We need to go up and take control of the front office. I suppose we could take a couple other of the other Indians good guys with us solely in a advisory capacity:biggrin2:

Agree with regard to letting Koby take a shot at closing.

Along with Marte and Breslow (he hasn't been given much of a chance to prove anything) they should get rid of Carrol who is only hitting around 170. Surely they could find utility infielder who could hit better than that. The front office just is not like to admit that they had made mistakes.

I am not ready to let Marte go. What he needs is to play every day for 5-6 games. You can't expect a young guy to see little to no time and make a judgement.

The reason Marte isn't gone is because of Brandon Phillips plain and simple. Shapiro isn't afraid to admit he made a mistake. He is probable more afraid of Marte being picked up and then begin to hit like the prospect he was and getting nothing for him. Worst case he is here til the trade deadline and is part of any package (not a feature part, but a part none the less) to upgrade the team.

I am also upset with Carroll, Gomez was a perfect part for this team and I am shocked they didn't resign him.

Well... one out of two ain't bad eh?

Barfield has a 12 game hitting streak in Buffalo. There are certain rumors floating that the Indians might package him was one of our pitchers to get a quality bat. I would trade Sowers or Byrd with Barfield to get a quality bat but I would not trade Laffey. We could throw in Am for good measure.

Is that the Atkins rumor? Too bad he isn't a quality bat. (he rakes at Coors field but sucks anywhere else)

I'd rather bring Barfield up to push Asdrubal to perform better. Plus I would rather trade Peralta so we can move Cabrera to SS.

Can't trade Sowers - may need him for depth in the future. The Indians still have to seriously consider shipping C.C. at some point, and they may be able to do that with the luxury of the depth in starting pitching. They'd definately get a quality bat (or two) for the big fella.

Yup. That is the one. I agree with you in that I don't know if I would like the deal or not because he struggles away from the "light air".
I know what you mean about putting Cabrera over at short because he is such quality on defense but every time I think about trading JP he hits another home run. I mean right now he is about the only guy who is hitting homers for the Tribe.

With regards to trading Sowers, we have some quality depth in the minors when it comes to pitching and I am not including Adam Miller. There is supposed to be a phenom coming up pretty fast in the ranks plus the other guys around.

You have to trade something to get something and we need hitting. The question is how long are you willing to wait until we go into the WS again. I guess I am tired of waiting and really not that worried about the Tribe's young pitching.

Agreed. After a rough start, he's coming around nicely and has the experience closing games.

I give Shapiro the benefit of the doubt...he's not dim enough to trade Laffey. Laffey looks like a future top of the rotation kinda guy. Plus if he did, I'd march in and take a steaming dump on his desk.

At least some of the struggling guys got some hits and RBIs today, but I'll wothhold any optimism until they can string together more than 2 good games. The pitching is unreal and gives us a legit shot at a very weak division this year. I just hope some kind of move can be made to get a decent bat or two in here. We can't expect 7 great innings everynight, but at least the rotation is strong enough to mask the problems in the bullpen.
