Indians Tidbits (2008 season)

I don't understand why Wedge doesn't keep a lineup
Let me get this straight, you're questioning Wedge, the manager of the Cleveland Indians. You are the first one in this thread to do such a thing:sad:

He can't change the lineup that much anymore because there are too many guys on the DL so the infield will remain intact for probably two weeks and the only switch in the OF for a while is Choo and Gut.

 an offense that is actually worse than ours comes up with 13 hits and 8 runs
A slow pitch softball league team of out of shape accountants could tee off on this bullpen most nights. It's unbelievable how this organization cannot keep any semblance of consistency in the pen here. 2003-04: awful, 2005: strong pen, 2006: awful, 2007: arguable the strongest part of the team, 2008: deplorable. It's a joke.

Oh c'mon...tell us how you really feel.

You're absolutely right by the way. Consistency...the Tribe has none! :(

San Diego's Khalil Greene slides into home ahead of a tag by Cleveland catcher Kelly Shoppach in the fifth inning.

CLEVELAND -- Two things have caught up with the Indians this season -- injuries and their past.
If a season turns on a twisted knee or bad shoulder, it can be blamed on fate. But the past lingers, haunts and brings sour memories to the surface for all to see.
Kevin Kouzmanoff's grand slam in the 10th inning last night made the bile flow again in an 8-3 loss to San Diego in Progressive Field. The slam didn't win the game, but it certainly put it to bed.

Sabathia with another good outing

the next 3 pitchers they face (rockies)

Greg Reynolds 1-4 6.69 ERA
Jeff Francis 2-6 5.49 ERA
Jorge De La Rosa 1-3 6.89 ERA (sowers pitches here so it evens out)

can we get a sweep here?

I'm sure the pen will cough at least one up.

Sabathia ruins Padres' day Indians' ace outduels veteran Greg Maddux to earn series victory
By Sheldon Ocker

CLEVELAND: It was billed as a showdown between C.C. Sabathia and Greg Maddux, the implication being that the ace of the Indians' staff some day will reach hall-of-fame stature, as Maddux did long ago.
But at 42, Maddux isn't Maddux anymore, even as a defensive All-Star. His own error Sunday at Progressive Field contributed to the San Diego Padres' 7-3 defeat and the Tribe's second series win in a row.
Sabathia outpitched Maddux, who can still do a credible job retiring hitters with his finely tuned command of the strike zone and various controlled-speed, off-speed and no-speed pitches, some of which could be called fastballs without too much of a stretch.
Maddux didn't pitch all that badly ? allowing five runs and eight hits in six innings ? given the fact that his throwing error in the third inning set the stage for three unearned runs.
