Indians Tidbits (2007 Season)

as easy as it would be to blame this loss on the bullpen, the fact is that over the last 8 innings of that game, the offense mustered one run on an error.

one unearned run in 8 innings and you are surprised you lost?

I don't want to get off-topic but I have never understood what a "closer" actually means and what the hell is a "save". If I were the manager of a professional baseball team and in the 8th inning my team was leading by one run and the opposing team was sending their 3rd, 4th, 5th, hitters to the plate I would want my best relief pitcher facing those guys. I would not wait until the 9th inning to bring in my best reliever to face the bottom of a team's lineup. Saves are way overrated. Joe Blo can have 45 saves this year but does that mean he has faced the best hitters in the AL. I don't think so.

Saying that, where is Ray Narkeski and Don Mossi when you need them.

I am not a tribe fan by any means but if they dont get their bullpen together this weekend against the Yanks they are going to get WORKED!!

JETER!!! the best thing to come out of Michigan.

their starters have a 1.2 ERA over the last 5 games, and the pen has been solid. the only reason they don't have a 4 game lead on the tigers and 5 game cushion over NY in the wildcard is that they haven't hit the ball in about 6 weeks. the pitching is the least of their concerns at the moment.

Aaron Laffey struggled early but hung around for 5 2/3 innings, allowing four runs.

CHICAGO -- Rookie Aaron Laffey outpitched Mark Buehrle for his first major-league win and Kelly Shoppach's three-run homer capped a five-run fourth inning last night as the Cleveland Indians beat the Chicago White Sox 7-5.
The Indians won for just the seventh time in their past 17 games but increased their lead in the American League Central to 1 1/2 games over Detroit.

Baseball notebook: Indians add veteran infielder

Friday, August 10, 2007 3:29 AM

From local and wire reports

The Cleveland Indians yesterday claimed veteran utility infielder Chris Gomez off waivers from the Baltimore Orioles. He will report to Cleveland today, and a corresponding move will be made to fit him on the 25-man roster.
Gomez, 36, hit .302 in 73 games for the Orioles, and he played all four infield positions.
Mike Rouse hit .119 in 41 games for the Indians before being placed on waivers this week, and rookie Asdru-bal Cabrera went 0 for 3 Wednesday in his big-league debut.

I am a die hard Indians fan and I watch almost every game or at least parts of every game. But I am sick of Wedge and him not finding a line-up and STICKING WITH IT. Our pitching, there is nothing wrong with it. Yeah sure they gave up 6 runs against NY tonight, but I'm not expecting our pitchers to pitch AMAZING games every game. If our lineup doesnt start putting up more runs a game, there's no way we will make the playoffs. I really wish they would start playing GOOD consistent baseball instead of either scoring many runs and no pitching or all pitching and no hitting. I like what wedge is doing other than the lineup part. Why is he sitting Garko once or twice a week? Sit someone else every once in a while. Garko is hitting .315 or so, and he is sitting once or twice a week. That doesn't make any sense to me.

Aren't the indians leading their division or at least right up there?

Yeah, they are winning the division. But I look at it this way...Sabathia in his last 4 starts is 1-2 with a 1.78ish ERA. What does that tell you? Carmona is in the same boat pretty much along with the rest of the starting pitchers. If I were a starter for Cleveland right now, i'd be pretty darn peeved that I'm not getting any run support

This team fucking sucks balls right now. I think I could win a Cy Young award if I got to start against these schmucks 30 times. 1 run on four hits. Four hits again. They need to fire Derek Shelton now, but this is the team that stuck with Roberto Hernandez for over three months, continued to watch Cabrera get shelled and kept Mike Rouse on the roster until last week despite a batting average in the low one hundreds.
