Indians Tidbits (2007 Season)

I don't think C.C. would go to the East. I think if he's not back with the Tribe, he's going west, either to one of the LA teams or San Francisco. I'd wager on the Angles though.

Hopefully he sees what we're building and how we've treated him and wants to stay aboard.

I don't know why I feel mixed about this. I love Pronk, I love watching him play, but he is easily replaced. You can always find hitters, pitching is another story though.

But then again it is a pipe dream to think CC will be back. CC is sitting on the winning lottery ticket and can earn $20+ Million a year EASY! (I am almost willing to bet if CC pitches like this through next year he might get $25 Million/year) There is just no way the Indians can compete with that. :sad2:

From SI's "Truth & Rumors" section so take it FWIW...

Sabathia next on Indians' list

Posted: Thursday July 12, 2007 08:00AM ET

Just what C.C. Sabathia, returning from the All-Star Game for today's workout at Jacobs Field, will cost stretches the imagination. At the All-Star Game in San Francisco, he said if the Indians were able to sign Travis Hafner, he would take that as a good sign that they might get something done with him.

:fingers crossed:

From the Houston Chronicle via SI.com:

The Red Sox, Indians and Tigers would like to acquire Astros reliever Brad Lidge. The Mets are among the teams interested in Roy Oswalt for the pennant stretch. If the Astros approached Oswalt and told him it would be better for the franchise's future to trade him, he told the Chronicle two weeks ago he would consider waiving his no-trade clause.

This would be a good trade for them if it did not cost too much.

It'll probably come down to us and Detroit. The Sawks already have Papelbon and Okijima(sp?), so they'd just be looking at him in a righty set-up role and I don't think they'd be willing to part with too much for that. Lidge would be nice, but I'm a little weary of him because he was awful at times last season and is 0-3 in save opportunities this season. Then again, the A.L. isn't familiar with him, so he could return to his dominating form of late '04 and '05 in a new league.

Tigers are supposedly close to a deal with Houston for Lidge. Involves the Tigers giving up OF Craig Monroe and a prospect, agreeing on which one seems to be the hold up.

giving up monroe is a pretty big risk for a guy that may be permanently headf*cked. if it was just a prospect, then it would be understandable.

I agree. It's not that I want the Tribe to get him so much as I don't want Detroit to. Because if he's not headf*cked, that's a scary Tiger team.

I'd take him just to keep Detroit's bullpen mediocre. If Todd Jones is still saving games in September, then I like our chances in the division.

Unless we still have Borowski. Then I'd say it's a toss up. At some point (I'm suprised it hasn't got us yet), he's gonna start blowing saves. Teams that have closers with 5.00+ ERA's that routinely allow 2-3 runners get on per inning don't tend to win championships. Ask Phillie fans.

I think his era is only high because he went in to those non-save situations early in the year and got in trouble. He really hasn't had any issues with regular save situations since then.

I mean, on June 3, his ERA was 7.29, and now it's 5.35, so it's not all that bad. Those non-save situations really make him appear worse than he actually is, though he isn't great by any stretch. He's still an average closer IMO.

No doubt, but still he seems to allow a runner or two on almost everytime out. How many 1-2-3 innings has he thrown? I could probably count them on one hand. Eventually, it's gonna catch up to him. I miss Doug Jones.

not really a huge risk, Monroe has been horrible at the plate all year and Thames has outplayed him everytime given the opportunity. The prospect would not be a highly ranked guy anyhow. Anyhow I agree that Jones isn't a great closer, I never feel comfortable when he enters the game.
