Indians Tidbits (2007 Season)

Passed the first big test of the season...3 straight in Detroit to put us up 2 1/2 games. Now right into 3 in Fenway.

followed by 4 with detroit at the jake. if cleveland can manage 4-3 over these next 7, with the sweep of detroit they just had, that's a solid 10 game set.

Fuck. Bases loaded, zero out in the eighth...only get one run. Runners on 2nd and 3rd with zero out in the ninth...only get one run. Tribe loses 5-3. The way the Red Sox are playing, I just wanna get one of these three at Fenway.

Here is the shitty explanation

I originally made the call that Blake was hit by the pitch and awarded him first base," Reed said. "When he got hit, that killed the ball so no runners could advance."

Boston manager Terry Fran cona came out of the dugout and asked Reed to check the call with first base umpire Chuck Mer iwether.

"Chuck affirmed that Blake did offer at the ball before he was hit by the pitch," Reed said.

We are talking about 4 blind men.

Big win tonight. I said all along that i'd be happy getting one in Fenway. We did and I am. Byrd pitched pretty well again, I just wish they'd get rid of fucking Hernandez already. He's awful. Shoppach had a huge game as well. Detroit up next at the Jake.

I agree that Hernandez is horrible, It would probably be a benifit just to cut him.

And Byrd is on a roll this year hes been a saving grace in the bottom of the rotation

Indians batter Red Sox pitcher

Byrd fares better than Matsuzaka, as Tribe unloads on Boston's vaunted starter

By Sheldon Ocker

Beacon Journal sportswriter

BOSTON - It was Daisuke Matsuzaka night at Fenway Park, and the Indians couldn't have been more pleased.
Red Sox Nation was counting on Matsuzaka to trigger a three-game sweep over the visitors from Cleveland. After all, he was the centerpiece of General Manager Theo Epstein's winter shopping spree and came into the game with a 7-2 record.
Besides, the Red Sox -- and moreso their fans -- have a certain sense of entitlement: The thinking goes, ``Matsuzaka vs. Paul Byrd? Who are you kidding?''
But things don't always go according to form. It took the Indians the better part of six innings, but in the end, they dismembered Matsuzaka and left town with an 8-4 win.
``I think there was a little something extra for me to stop the slide,'' Byrd said. ``We're in first place, and there's a team one or two games behind us. So it's extra pressure, but that's why I came here.''

Indians report

Relievers continue to be problematic

Tribe's search ongoing for consistent bullpen

By Sheldon Ocker

Beacon Journal sportswriter

BOSTON - The Indians continue the search for relievers.
At the moment, only four out of eight bullpen pitchers consistently are doing their jobs: closer Joe Borowski, setup man Rafael Betancourt, backup setup man Tom Mastny and left-hander Aaron Fultz, who has a problem with his control recently.
Manager Eric Wedge cannot use Fernando Cabrera in meaningful situations, and Roberto Hernandez has been far too erratic to count on. Rafael Perez has been solid, but he arrived from Buffalo only a few days ago and is woefully lacking in experience.
Mike Koplove, another recent call-up, has experience, but his outings have been spotty (4 IP, 2 R, 4 H, 1 BB).

INDIANS NOTEBOOK

BOSTON - Wedge gives rationale
for Cabrera decision
Why did manager Eric Wedge stick with Fernando Cabrera after he walked three consecutive batters in the Tribe's 4-2 loss Tuesday night?
``Typically, I wouldn't leave a guy in there after doing that,'' the manager said. ``But he was being squeezed (by the umpire) a little, he was around the zone and was going 3-and-2 on guys.
``If I had taken him out then, he would be starting from ground zero again. But he got something out of it (by striking out his last batter) to use next time.''
Asked about Daisuke Matsuzaka's reported gyro pitch, Wedge said, ``I haven't seen any Herman Munster pitches from him.''

INDIANS INSIDER
Tribe is wait and see with Percival

Thursday, May 31, 2007

Boston- The Indians were one of five teams to watch Troy Percival throw a bullpen session Tuesday in California.
Here's what a scout who watched the session had to say: "Percival looked healthy, but it's still un clear what he'd do in a game situation. He had no pain, his body looked about the same as it did when he played. He was throwing between 87 mph to 90 mph - hitting 90 mph several times."
The former Angels and Tigers closer retired in 2006 after an injury to his right elbow. He has not pitched since 2005.
