Byrd fares better than Matsuzaka, as Tribe unloads on Boston's vaunted starter

BOSTON - It was Daisuke Matsuzaka night at Fenway Park, and the Indians couldn't have been more pleased.
Red Sox Nation was counting on Matsuzaka to trigger a three-game sweep over the visitors from Cleveland. After all, he was the centerpiece of General Manager Theo Epstein's winter shopping spree and came into the game with a 7-2 record.
Besides, the Red Sox -- and moreso their fans -- have a certain sense of entitlement: The thinking goes, ``Matsuzaka vs. Paul Byrd? Who are you kidding?''
But things don't always go according to form. It took the Indians the better part of six innings, but in the end, they dismembered Matsuzaka and left town with an 8-4 win.
``I think there was a little something extra for me to stop the slide,'' Byrd said. ``We're in first place, and there's a team one or two games behind us. So it's extra pressure, but that's why I came here.''
