Indians Tidbits (2007 Season)

Grady Sizemore just made one hell of a catch. :yow1: WOW

That was an outstanding play. It made #2 on SportsCenter's Play-of-the-Day. Some other guy on a different Cleveland team beat him out. :wink2:

I think the bullpen is still an issue but maybe we will find someone from Buffalo like Perez who will come to Cleveland and really surprise us. I think we are going to have to leave Hernandez go if he does not turn it around pretty soon. I do now want to give away Cabrerra for nothing.

They are looking at a guy (name escapes me right now) who used to be an excellent reliever but missed all of last season due to surgery. I don't think I want another "sore arm" in our bullpen.

Agree for the most part. I just think we need to dump Hernandez now. He's old as dirt and hasn't done shit all year. I hated that signing before the ink was dry. Blowkowski will be an issue too. Yes he's racking up saves, but he's waaaaay too erratic to be a closer on a team competing for the postseason. Early on I was really hoping Cabrera would grow into that role. Unfortunately, he's been getting torched for weeks now. We're gonna have to go out and trade for a closer in August unless somebody like Betancourt can step into that rolw (which I doubt). Either way, I will give the bullpen credit, they haven't completely sabotaged our season like I feared going in. Of course, it helps getting solid starting pitching.

...and stunk up the joint again tonight. I'd hate to lose somebody with his potential, but I really don't know how much longer he can remain on the big league roster. He's getting hammered everytime out and has lost his control too.

A nice comeback win though. Always fun to beat Detroit.

his first inning he pitched well. wedge should have hooked him after that so he had a strong inning to build on. instead, he left out there a guy laboring to throw strikes and seriously shaken in terms of confidence, and he totally ruined whatever positives were taken from the first inning.

of course, given the option of hernandez, it's understandable.

Tribe finds way to topple Tigers

Indians overcome four-run deficit in ninth inning

By Sheldon Ocker

Beacon Journal sportswriter

CLEVELAND - By now, you probably think the Detroit Tigers will lose every time they play the Indians. Under the circumstances, that's a reasonable assumption.
And Lord knows what the Tigers must be thinking after blowing a four-run lead in the ninth to enable the Tribe to triumph 12-11 Friday night at Jacobs Field.
Victor Martinez joined the competition to become Public Enemy No. 1 in Detroit after hitting two home runs, including a three-run blast in the ninth to trim the Indians' deficit to one run.
In 21 at-bats against the Tigers this year, Martinez has five home runs and 11 RBI. Who does he think he is, LeBron James?
``I'm playing for the Indians,'' Martinez said. ``I don't care what the Tigers think.''

Indians report

What a difference a year can make

Wedge says players picking up slack for each other

By Sheldon Ocker

Beacon Journal sportswriter

CLEVELAND - After 52 games last season, the Indians were 16-16 in the Central Division and 26-26 overall, on their way to a 78-84 record.
What a difference a year makes.
At the same juncture this season, the Tribe was 14-4 against division opponents and 33-19 in all games going into Friday night's encounter with the Detroit Tigers.
Surprisingly, the team's turnaround has been most pronounced against its own division, regarded by many as the best in the majors. Against the East, the Indians are 10-9 and against the West they are 7-5.

I was thinking the exact same thing when he came back how to pitch for a second inning. I thought that they should have brought him in when they brought in Mastny. Actually, he faced the same hitters when he and his 1-2-3 innings but that's beside the point. With the one inning under his belt, it would have gave him some confidence for the next time. Hern?ndez has got to go.

Maybe we can get some relief help from someone in the East because no one is going to catch the Red Sox but I don't know who is available.
Gutt... is out of options after this year and we have enough young outfielders in the minors that maybe we could package him with someone else for a trade.

If this is going to be the year, they need to pull out all the stops. I just hope that they realize that.

they need to start giving perez some of fultz's loogy chances. if i have to watch him walk another guy with the bases loaded i might kick someone. his inherited runner ratio is also poor, which is not reflective in his ERA.

The inherited runner stat is something that I think should be implemented in baseball statistics but never will be. It means much more than the ERA.
I agree with you regarding Fultz. He better get his act together fast or will be headed back to Buffalo. Every time Perez has come up I think he has acquitted himself well.

Stop the presses, Hernandez is getting torched. Will somebody please tell somebody that he cannot fucking pitch anymore. I said it about 6 weeks ago, if Wedge continues to go to this geezer, I'm going to personally fly to Cleveland and piss on his desk. Get rid of his worthless ass already. There has to be a better option in the minors. At some point, this bullpen is gonna come back to bite us in the ass. Serious upgrades need to be made if we're serious about a postseason run. Of course, not all the blame can be placed on the bullpen so far tonight. Bad defense and another bad outting by Lee dug a hole. Just another Hernandez rant by me basically.

it's amazing how poor starting pitching makes a mediocre bullpen look much worse. that being said, cleveland can't rely on the starting going 7 strong every night so they only have to look to the 2-3 worthwhile guys in the pen.

while i'm at it, when did cliff lee become such a pitching pussy? he's scared to throw his curve ball unless he has an 0-2 or 1-2 count, and he doesn't have the balls to run his cutter in to righties anymore, and that's when he actually throws it. he has basically been a fastball/changeup guy since coming off the DL. For a guy that needs to reach back to hit 90, with no movement, that isn't going to cut it.
