Indiana Hoosiers (your shinebox, go f'n get it)

Whomever his portal talent evaluator guy is needs poached. He obviously has a set of things he is evaluating, that would be helpful in filling gaps.

Just sayin': Yeah, somebody at Indiana has to be spending a lot of time evaluating players in the transfer portal. They probably have several "portal talent evaluator" guys. According to Our Lads; Indiana has 8 transfers starting both offense and defense. The names in bold are 2025 transfers. The real question is: Why would any high school kid want to go to Indiana?; there is only a 3/11 (27% chance that he will ever start) and if you would factor in special teams it would even be lower.

It'll be interesting to see how sustained success can be achieved by relying on 1-2yr rentals every year. Most have already reached or are close to their ceilings. And any HSer they bring in will have a hard time seeing the field and even have much of a chance at development. Many transfers, transfer because they weren't good enough to earn PT at their 1st school, or just need a chance to see the field. Cignetti better hope he sees more of the latter. But tbh, with CFP expansion, he can make the CFP almost every year, and retire arguably the great HC in IU's history

They must have a lot transferring out as well. The majority of the folks riding the pine are in their first 2 years with a handful of upper class men. The question is will they learn and start next year or transfer out. This seems pretty common for a newer coach taking over a shit program these days. Need to get your own guys in there first with transfers then recruit and develop.

If the media narrative of making the new expanded CFP field = "competing for national championships" then a lot of coaches should be looking at places like IU to go and get a lifetime contract or work for a big step up job.

Until proven otherwise there is a massive gap in CFB between the top 5 or so teams in terms of "true talent" and the even "good" teams. I think a capable coach with a willing NIL cannon can go do this in a lot of middling P4 places and make a playoff appearance. Does that put them on equal footing with OSU/Bama/UGA/etc? No. No it does not.
