I’d compare this to Alvarez at Wisky, or D’Antonio at MSU. They did more with less for decades, and quite frankly, played little brother to no one.

Under his previous deal, Cignetti's buyout was set to drop to $10 million on Dec. 1, a number that now climbs to $15 million under the new contract, sources tell ESPN's Pete Thamel.

Just sayin': It looks like Indiana upped his buyout. ESPN didn't say what it would cost Indiana to fire him without cause (if he isn't able to maintain his current influx of transfers and ends up "crashing and burning" a couple years down the road, etc.)

The portal won't dry up for Cignetti. You know why? Because this is his pitch:

"I was trying to become a HC for years and no one gave me a chance. No one believed I was a winner. But finally, at age 64, Indiana gave me a shot. And I knew I belonged here, because nobody believed in Indiana either. And you know what I did? I took my opportunity with both hands and I rammed it right up the ass of everyone who doubted me and we went to the playoffs. And you? You're what? 2nd string? 3rd string? When I saw where you were on the depth chart, it made me angry. There's a winner in there. I can see it. You know why I can see it? Because you're just like me. They don't believe in you either. But I do. And you have two options: you can rot on the bench, hoping someone gets hurt so you finally get an opportunity OR you can come back to Bloomington with me and we can both stick it right up their fuckin' asses!"

There's always going to be kids who are really good, sitting behind someone even better and are pissed off that they aren't getting a chance. And they're ripe for Cignetti to bring back to his island of misfit toys. He's an intense dude who talks with conviction and kids just have to turn on ESPN or checkout any sports podcast to see that his pitch isn't bullshit.

But it is bullshit. Unless he's tampering he has to wait for those kids to hit the portal at which point us, Bama, Georgia etc are going to go after em too. Except they can say "hey we're not Indiana and this isn't basketball"

Whomever his portal talent evaluator guy is needs poached. He obviously has a set of things he is evaluating, that would be helpful in filling gaps.
