Indiana Hoosiers Basketball (Dead Program)

IU has some extremely loaded and willing donors. Insane how much was donated just to fire Archie; someone decided it was worth $7 million not to wait a year. Probable, then, that they also have some someones who will fork over insane amounts of money to get them a coach they want.

If you go to Peegs, they have just gone nuclear obsessive over Stevens. Have like 50 different threads about him, why he is the perfect fit, NBA game threads where they root against the Celtics, threads about his home life... It's some creepy shit.

Stevens is a good coach who I am sure would do well at IU, but the Hoosier fans are acting like they will never lose another game if they get him.

I am not dismissing it. Lot of smoke.

Money talks.

Only way is if Boston fires Stevens. His contract extension runs through 2024-25 and his annual salary is over a million more than IU was paying Archie.

IU also just spent $10 million to buy out Miller's contract.

IU has to make a run at him, but it isn't happening. While he isn't having the best year, he's no where near "job in jeopardy" territory, and the only way he's leaving Boston is if it's mutual. And that's assuming he even wants to return to college.

The Indiana basketball coaching search is heating up in a big way after firing Archie Miller this past Monday. According to a published report by WDRB’s Rick Bozich, the attention to IU’s search has shifted towards former Ohio State head coach Thad Matta, while also reporting that IU athletic director Scott Dolson is “believed to have interviewed” former Hoosiers star and New York Knicks assistant Mike Woodson on Saturday.

The issue for any return to coaching for Matta, as was the case toward the end of his time with the Scarlet and Gray, is his health. After issues stemming from a back surgery gone wrong, Matta was left with drop foot, limiting what he could do on the court with his players and eventually making it difficult for Matta to perform even the most basic of coaching requirements toward the end, namely going out on the road to recruit. When making public appearances since leaving Ohio State, Matta has appeared healthier than when he left the program, but that is without the demands of coaching every day.
