This is the kind of intel we pay for here.Just to put rumors to rest
Day has not reached out to me formally
I read somewhere that an interesting name could be the OL coach at Memphis. Ryan Silverfield is a heck of a OL and was ranked as a top 5 recruiter for the AAC in 2017. Coached lines for a 2000yd RB in college(Kevin Smith at UCF) and in the NFL(Adrian Peterson in Minnesota). Has ties to Oh by coaching in Toledo for a short stintA few college and NFL offensive line coaches with ties to Day:
Jeff Stoutland - Eagles OL coach (worked with Day in Philly in 2015; former Alabama OL coach)
Justin Frye - UCLA OC/OL coach (worked with Day at Temple and BC; also served as a GA under Urban)
Eric Wolford - South Carolina OL coach (worked with Day in SF in 2016; Youngstown native; former YSU head coach)
Phil Trautwein - Boston College OL coach (GA at BC while Day served as OC, Florida OL during Day's year as GA in 2005)
Not sure how realistic the first three names are, however. Stoutland would have to leave a cushy NFL job for the college grind, Frye has offensive coordinator responsibilities at UCLA, and Wolford just signed a three year extension at South Carolina.
Credit him for sticking with his alma mater and trying to beat the best. Way too many people keep just trying to latch onto the best.Yeah I don't knock that... but he's not winning anything there. Not while Alabama has Saban at least.
Well it looks more and more like we lose stud. To be honest I approve of that.
Our offensive line recruiting has not been good enough the past few seasons and as a result we are facing 2019 being pretty thin.
The group was wildly inconsistent this year and you could tell that Ryan Day was a little mythed why we were not Landing some of the Ohio recruits on the offensive line.
Respectfully disagree on the recruiting aspect under Stud. Sure, we will go into 2019 with 11 scholarship O-linemen (which is like the ridiculously low average amount we had yearly in the Tressel years). However, the quality of guys Stud recruited has been markedly better than we ever had under Warriner. Night and day.
Where I take issue with Stud (and I think most people do that are calling for him to get the axe) is the O-linemen's performance and their development. That has definitely been lacking. Recruiting quality has not.
I like Stud and it's hard not to like him as a person, but we need someone in who can develop at a higher level and do a bang up job on the recruiting end
I think a lot of that was having Jordan at C this year. Late getting the ball back and really slow getting it there caused a lot of jumpiness from the line.
It's been an issue for Prince since he got here.
