I'm Optimistic...Still

It not a ‘winning’ way to play. It’s understandable though. I’m not saying that’s what CJ was doing. CJ and Day know the truth.
All I know is the dumb fans on here(mainly me) kept commenting on how if Stroud doesn't run at least 5xs in a big game where the talent gab is closed we can't win the NC. Many of us kept pounding the table on this subject. If we could easily see this as a problem Day and Stroud defiantly could. I had hopes that maybe CJ would run for a 100 yesterday... he easily could have... but someone or something kept him from doing so.

Its not "winning" football to not take 10 free yards when its there. I want a winning QB as the leader of the Scarlet and Grey. It would be like a basketball player getting fouled and saying he doesn't want to shoot the Free Throws. Just dumb. Made it so much easier for opposing teams to scheme around.

As a projected top 3 NFL draft pick, Stroud has (basically a minimum of) $40M dollars on the line which is the guaranteed amount the top picks are getting. This don't even count endorsement deals and future contracts. I have now idea what Stroud thought process was concerning scrambling for 1st downs, etc. All I can say is if I was in Stroud's position I'd say in all honesty "hell yes I want to win the game; however, my #1 priority is to not get injured and screw up my potential $40M+ payday".
I want Stroud to get paid and I will root for him in the NFL, but no way he goes top 3 now. IMO that was an extremely dominate performance by the OSU offensive line yesterday. Pocket was always clean, with massive throwing windows. I couldn't always see what the receivers were doing, but Stroud just looked frozen. Make no mistake that game probably cost him 10mil or so.

It’s a minor point since it didn’t become a problem, but why in the Hell would the coaches allow Egbuka to fair catch a ball in his own territory with 4 seconds to go in the half, when you know you’re not going to run a play? Only bad things can happen, and it’s happened before. If the ball rolls to the 1-yard line with 1 second left, you can run a sneak or throw the ball over a receiver’s head up the sideline to kill the time. But if you fumble the punt, it’s a free FG for the opponent.

That shows me that the head coach might have too much on his plate. I was very disappointed to see that punt fielded.

I understand that mentality but Stroud also never ran much in high school either so I think it's more how he plays in general than protecting himself from injury for his NFL pay day.

But let's say he was protecting himself and the top tier pro style would do the same, Day should look at the tier below or dual threat QBs. I'd rather have the Buckeyes winning big games vs having the Buckeyes be the winners of draft day.

Yeah, you want players (at every position) to give it their all and do what ever they can do to win every game. Urban Meyer really liked the duel threat QBs and had lots of success with them so that may be the answer. Ohio State still is going to want "draft day winners" as that is one of their primary recruiting strategies which has proven to be very successful:

If you guys think Stroud is immobile, check out Raiola.

I saw Raiola on tv this year.

Elite arm talent as the nerds say.

Decent v hs kids at moving around the pocket.

Downright mortified at his foot speed.
He literally looked like Big Ben in his last year.

I can see why his the apple of everyone’s eye on the camp circuit.

But this shows you Day places no value on the qb getting yards with his legs.

Just a big boned kid which isn’t surprising knowing who is dad is.
He will be north of 260 lbs when he is 21.

I've never thought Stroud was immobile, he is decently fast. He might not be Braxton, Fields, or freshman JT fast but he is considerably faster than Cardale or Haskins. He probably has similar speed to JT the year after he recovered from his broken leg.

I think the right description for Stroud is a unwilling runner. He just refuses to run even to the sideline to pick up a couple yards. He rather throw an incompletion than take 5 yards up the sideline then out of bounds.

We have a special teams coach right? I know his name has come up before. Parker Fleming, right. Seems like something he should be handling, no?

I mean Haskins wasn't exactly mobile either. Probably significantly less nimble and slower than Stroud. The difference is when push came to shove, Haskins nutted up and used his legs when he needed to. If the dude can get 5 or 6 yards on a consistent basis when shit breaks down, I'll consider that progress. No one needs him to be Brax or JT.

Games especially Big 10 in November are not 7 on 7 camps. I prefer a Lincoln Riley QB not a one dimensional talent.

This! Just another example like all the delay of game penalties that could've been avoided with TO from the sideline. Maddening!

our run of dominance was due to come to an end.

I just don't buy that.
There has been no reason for our dominance to end.
We have better recruiting. We should have better staff.
There is no way scUM survives first round of playoffs. With or without Corum.
They are not on our level. It's very Cooper-esque.
Day has 1 more chance, and really... he needs to win 3 in a row now to get back on track. I'm not sure he has it in him. I'm not sure his recruits and staff hires have it in them.
We've been very very fortunate with this run in the last 20 years. To rarely see 2 or 3 loss seasons.
But ill say this. You can lose 2-3 games a year here, so long as:
1. You always beat that team
2. You win Indy at least once in 3 years (usually goes hand-in-hand with 1, since the West is weakest link)

You could even lose 4 in a down year, if you can beat scUM.
But you cannot go 11-1 if that 1 is them, and especially if it keeps you out of Indy.
