Illinois Fighting Illini (you'll see)

Well said, B&B.

Illinois will have a great deal to offer by way of athletic facilities this year with the renovations to the football stadium. The weight training center, etc.. will be the best in the country, a state of the art facility that will have other schools drooling. Check out the site to see what I'm talking about. Illinois does not have the tradition of Ohio State or Michigan, but Zook can sell recruits on making new traditions, like he did with Benn who predicted during the High School all star game that Illinois would go to a bowl game his freshman year and they went to the Rose Bowl, the grand daddy of them all.

Sorry, this doesn't really blow me away... it's a marked improvement for the Illini, but certainly doesn't warrant chest thumping as the greatest, let alone on a board whose team just dropped $25 million on just their athletic training complex.

Spend only a minute in this new weight facility and you will understand the work necessary to succeed on the field. You will never forget the sounds: The bass from the stereo. The clank of steel against steel.
Some other classic lines from this 'illinois renaissance' website
One of the most picturesque venues in the country, stately Memorial Stadium – its red brick, granite, and limestone fa?ades dominating the central Illinois horizon – has been featured in decades of breathtaking photography.

We have decent facilities as well. :wink2:

"Mr. Madison, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

Some? Perhaps... I doubt you'll find much coveting around these parts.Someone tell Al Gore his internets are broken again. I can't will this link to magically reveal itself and load...
The point is that Illinois does have a lot to offer recruits and although we do not have the recent tradition of OSU, we will be the other team in the Big Two, little eight (9) with Michigan relegated to the lesser teams for a couple of years while they find their way with a new coach, new system, new quarterback, etc... Illinois will battle OSU for the next couple of years for the Big Ten Title and may the best team win. This years game in Champaign will probably decide the winner. I hope I can get tickets. Both schools have one thing in common, we both detest Michigan!

Do you people see what I have to deal with?? The Illini find their way to Pasadena for the second time in my lifetime, and suddenly we're battling OSU yearly for the Big Ten title for the forseeable future.

Look, Algonquin, I appreciate the enthusiasm. But please don't jump off the bandwagon when we go 7-5 next season. We've gutted the center of the defense (2 DTs, 2 LBs, both safeties), and that will take half the season to rebuild. The passing game should start to click, but Mendenhall going pro is a huge blow to our rushing attack. You don't lose the Big Ten Player of the Year and just expect to pick up where you left off with four 3-star running backs. And the schedule that gives us away games at Missouri (albeit STL), Michigan, Penn State, and Wisconsin doesn't bode well for a Big Ten Title run.

2009 is our year to take a run at the Big Ten Title. We'll return most everyone, and Wisconsin, Ohio State, and Penn State will all suffer significant graduation and go-pro-early losses. With the schedule playing into our hands with the tough games at home, that's the year where you can say "winner of the Illini/Buckeye game in September gets the inside track to the Big Ten title."

Patience, grasshopper.

Yeah but with those recruiting classes OSU keeps pulling in, they ain't going anywhere. Plus, don't count out Michigan
