Illinois Fighting Illini (you'll see)

Even his own fellow fans don't buy his crap...

And if you don't agree with me that just means you're a troll...and a Communist...and from Michigan.

Nail, meet the hammer:

I believe the kid is a natural mauler who is built perfectly for the center position. He is shorter and has great knee bend enabling him to get underneath the pads of DT'/NG. He is EXTREMELY strong for a high school kid. Gets up to the second level on scoop blocks with the G and delivers a good hit on the LB which is VERY rare for college centers and even more scarce at the high school level. Can he play multiple position/utility OL bouncing from T,G and C? No. But he is as good a 'pure' center as I have seen since Jeff Byers out of Colorado who was All Amer with USC.

Have ThaKid and diddy met yet? I would pay to see that...diddy droppin' logic on a dreamer.

Another entertaining thread brought to you by ThaKid. He really should be a scUM fan. He'd fit right in.

Scout.com: Tinley Park Andrews OL Tony Durkin To Decide Soon

I love how he's still pulling out the snide, seemingly-confident, I-know-something-you-don't "well, we'll just have to wait and see" card when someone calls him on his BS, over-the-top predictions and opinions. For example:

ThaKid: Well, we'll see right? I could say a lot, but it won't matter. I'll take Durkin over Bobek (And so would this staff), and I hope he chooses Illinois.

Where have I seen that sort of thing before . . . .

has great knee bend
I don't care if that is a legitimate "thing" that recruiters look for, that just sounds stupid.

I am pretty sure every center at every school in college can do that... otherwise they wouldn't be playing.

Ron Zook is a lot of things, but his talents don?t necessarily translate into being a top head coach.

That?s not the slam it might appear to be. Zook is an elite recruiter, has peerless energy, and has the type of upbeat, attaboy personality that?s perfect for the college game ? as a defensive coordinator. But, of course, he?s the head man for Illinois and he?d like to keep his gig by shocking the world with a 2007-like campaign. To do that, he needed to make some major changes, and he brought aboard offensive coordinator Paul Petrino and defensive coordinator Vic Koenning to help the cause.

With the two strong coordinators, Zook is hoping for a quick turnaround after his Illini were one of the nation?s biggest duds. Zook pulled a Bucky Dent, coming up with one run to the Rose Bowl a few years ago but failing to come up with a winning season in his other four years with just 12 wins outside of the miraculous 2007 campaign. The talent has been there, the athleticism is in place, and there was no excuse last year to be so miserable with the first win over an FBS team coming on Halloween. Zook has to hope Petrino and Koenning can pick up the slack.

Scout.com: 2010 Illinois Preview ?€“ Offense

- Illinois Previews 2009 | 2008 | 2007 | 2006

What You Need To Know: There were some major disasters and mega-disappointments across the college football landscape last year, but few were more stunning than the lack of production from an Illinois offense that had all the pieces in place to blow up. While the ground game was fine, the passing attack that was supposed to be strength was shockingly mediocre. While things aren?t changing up too dramatically scheme-wise, new offensive coordinator Paul Petrino will have plenty of tinkering to do. The quarterback situation is starting from square one with redshirt freshman Nathan Scheelhaase needing to show right away that he can be the franchise for the next four years, and while he?s a dangerous dual-threat prospect, he?ll have to work behind a big, veteran line that?s great for the ground game and struggles in pass protection. Mikel Leshoure and Jason Ford are home run hitting backs who should make the ground game shine, and the receiving corps has some excellent talents even though there isn?t a true No. 1, Arrelious Benn-like star to work around.

Returning Leaders
Passing: Eddie McGee
25-47, 303 yds, 1 TD, 3 INT
Rushing: Mikel Leshoure
108 carries, 734 yds, 5 TD
Receiving: Jarred Fayson
16 catches, 218 yds, 1 TD

Star of the offense: Junior RB Mikel Leshoure
Player who has to step up and be a star: Senior OT Ryan Palmer
Unsung star on the rise: Junior WR A.J. Jenkins
Best pro prospect: Junior OT Jeff Allen
Top three all-star candidates: 1) Leshoure, 2) Allen, 3) OG Hugh Thornton
Strength of the offense: Running Game, Line Size
Weakness of the offense: Quarterback Experience, Proven No. 1 Receiver

Scout.com: 2010 Illinois Preview ?€“ Defense

What You Need To Know: There?s way too much experience and way too many good athletes to not be far, far better. After finishing dead last in the Big Ten in total defense, points allowed, sacks, and tackle for loss, the Illini D welcomes in Vic Koenning, a veteran coach who knows how to generate production. The hope is for Koenning?s hybrid position, the Bandit, can make the defense more aggressive and more disruptive with an end/linebacker able roam around depending on the opponent. The hope is for Martez Wilson to return 100% after suffering a neck injury, and the man in the middle of the linebacking corps has some nice players on the outside in Ian Thomas and Nate Bussey to help him out. Corey Liuget has to be a rock against the run on the defensive interior, while all-star Clay Nurse has to turn his game up a few notches on the end and be a down-in and down-out pass rusher. The secondary hasn?t done nearly enough over the last few years and needs to hope the experience can make all the difference.

Returning Leaders
Tackles: Ian Thomas, 95
Sacks: Clay Nurse, 5.5
Interceptions: Tavon Wilson, 1

Star of the defense: Junior LB Martez Wilson
Player who has to step up and be a star: Sophomore CB Terry Hawthorne
Unsung star on the rise: Sophomore LB/DE Michael Buchanan
Best pro prospect: Wilson
Top three all-star candidates: 1) Wilson, 2) DE Clay Nurse, 3) LB Ian Thomas
Strength of the defense: Experience, Linebacker
Weakness of the defense: Takeaways, Pass Rush

Great preview...Illinois has a chance to be as good as they want this year despite what anyone says, About the only things I kind of disagree with are the little pieces on Hawthorne and Buchanan. They have a chance (And the potential) to be special at their respective positions. They should be considering both are hard workers and have their heads in the right place. And Tavon Wilson, while not Vontae athletically (Not many corners are because Vontae is a freak), is going to be a stud and pretty good NFL prospect

#17 = arguably the best C prospect. This new math confuses me.

If it's a slow night at work, I might go back and read some of thakid's greatest hits in this thread. That [censored] was EPIC.

Thakid:
Actually, I would. Durkin has emerged as of late. I think he is a better prospect and apparently so does the staff (Who didn't offer Bobek) and a few others (Your man Jeff, etc.). Other than OSU, Bobek's best offers are Colorado, MSU and Purdue.
Let's see, Brian Bobek committed to Ohio State on March 16th.

Durkin was offered by Illinois on May 25th.

When Bobek committed to Ohio State, Durkin probably did not have any BCS offers.

Sad thing is, this is not a case of Thakid omitting facts that did not fit his agenda. He just does not have that mental ability.

Scout.com: Chris Boles commits.

Re: Chris Boles commits.

Two more words for you since you like to focus on the negatives: Hugh Thornton. He's a sleeper OL UI got out of Ohio...and I'll let you guess where he'll be in a couple of years...I'll just tell you...NFL. Boles is a good pickup. I had written him off because I thought he wasn't interested. This is definitely a pleasant surprise and only confirms what I know...this program is going to be just fine. And to the poster who mentioned Walsh, it is likely UI won't get him. He's a great prospect (Better than Watt who went to ND) and didn't show much if any interest in UI, but from reading around on tos another factor eliminated UI regardless (Along with other top academic schools).

Boles is a great pick-up for the Illini, but ThaKid is nothing but hype and hope and would be better served getting out of the prediction business... for his sake anyways. It's great entertainment for us folks that actually know what we're talking about.
