I hear that Illinois has a chance here...

Champaign, IL (Sports Network) - The University of Illinois rewarded head football coach Ron Zook with a one-year contract extension through the 2013 season on Thursday.
The agreement does not include a raise in Zook's annual $1.505 million salary.

Interesting that it's only a one year extension?

That happens fairly often. The head coach wants to be able to tell the current recruiting class that he'll be there through all 4 or 5 years of their career. This will keep Zook there through Jan '14, which is the end of year four for the guys that will sign next February.

Next year, if he does OK, they'll probably give him another 1-year extension.

Within the past month, I had both of my DirecTV boxes switched out for the new HD boxes, and also a new dish on my roof.. so everything i had saved up to watch on my DVR was gone, and I had 200 hours ready to serve me.. in my attempts to re-fill my hard drive, I came across the entire season of Illinois Football: The Journey..

I am not quite all the way through yet, but I find the whole idea pretty interesting. The last episode I watched was fresh off the heals of the 45-20 scUM beatdown, and they were coming back home (homecoming, nonetheless) to play Minnesota, and here is where the best part of the show happens.. everyone was expecting the Illini to roll Minny, they even said so, acknowledging that Minny had 1 win the year prior. That was much of why that game was picked for homecoming.

Then Minny gives them a beat down. Anyone else see that last year, or been catching up as I have? I just thought the whole premise was something else, glad that it wasn't us.

I actually like the idea, as long as it is someone else doing it.

I also think that the fact MSU is not coming off of a Rose Bowl may help them out here, as the Illinois program was not quite ready for all of that. I have taken a liking to Brit Miller, mostly due to the "Regular, Everyday, Normal Guy" routine (shout out to Jonathan LaJoie).. the gut and the mustache gig are things I can identify with.

I really think I would enjoy seeing scUM do this, preferably if they should ever go like 3-9, which I know makes me sound crazy..

RR & Tate would LOVE this kind of exposure imo.

If I was ever lucky enough to catch behind the scenes footage of last year's glorious triumph which was their season, and the DirecTV guy came to take my evidence, I would be prepared to shed blood. That would be pure gold.
