Illinois Fighting Illini (you'll see)

Fiutak's take on the Ililni class of 2008.

cfn

3. Illinois

The class is heavy on ... Receivers. The Illinois passing game hasn't been anything special, but it got a potential superstar in Arrelious Benn last year and loaded up with five excellent prospects, led by A.J. Jenkins and Cordale Scott, but the best pass catcher of the bunch could be TE Hubie Graham. The secondary is also loaded, especially at corner, but safety Donsay Hardeman could be the star of the class.

The player who'll someday be a really big deal ... DE Corey Liuget

The player you might care about this year ... S Donsay Hardeman

What it all means to the real world of college football ... Last year's class opened up eyes, and skepticism, across the college football world, and while this year's haul isn't anywhere near as strong, it's really, really good. Ron Zook built on the Rose Bowl season, and his reputation as a top-notch recruiter, by continuing to haul in some big-time playmakers. There's no excuse for the Illini to not be good for the next several years with the talent coming into Champaign.

Curious as to how Joe Morgan is progressing at Illinois...

I know he had some catches here and there, but curious if he will have a bigger role next year...

Same thing for Brian Gamble...

We saw more out of Gamble than Morgan. I am not sure what Morgan will give us, but i think Gamble has a very good future and i think they will move him on defense next year.

A post from Illinois Scout Boards. Thought it was so entertaining I'd share:

I know...I said this the other day. Illinois is about to become DL, DB, WR, and OL U. With a shot at RB and TE U. The number of pro prospects (And top flight pro prospects at that) Illinois is about to turn out is going to be CRAZY...

I love the optimism but it makes it very hard to discuss things with them at times. (and yes Illinois fans, Buckeye fans are guilty of it as well we just have more to back it up that's all).

The left the most important position out... QB U

Illinois is going to be good next year but IMO won't be AS good as they were last year. Maybe the same record, but won't make a BCS bowl. I think PSU, OSU, and Wisconsin will all beat Illinois because of their lack of depth at the tailback position and depending on an average QB. Depending on Juice to be a dual threat QB is why they will not be as good next year. Last year having Mendenhall took so much pressure off of Juice to not be running the ball 20 times per game, but with #5 gone the pressure will be back on Juice to perform.

this is becoming quite irritating... He really does offer just about everyone thats boarderline D1 talent.

I would love to see college football teams only be allowed to OFFER as many scholarships as they have open... If a team only has 20 free scholarships then dammit you should be able to only offer 20 players. That would put an end to "your my #1 guy" shit. It would make teams more selective too.

What happens if everyone accepts their offers? Wouldn't they be WAYYY over the limit of players? and then what?
