They returm arguably the best skill position AND some of the best defensive players in the entire B10. They have solid depth everywhere (Fingers crossed) and some nice young talent. People keep downplaying the Illini but like I keep saying I think THIS season will be special. That was before this avalanche of NFL coaching fell on the Illini. We will see but I'm not going to be surprised to see them do big things this year.

To be honest, though... I think we only play them once in the next 4 years or so? So I don't much care either way... any competition in that division could be a good thing.
At least they're spending BTN money on a half-decent staff .. unlike Purdue.

This is a perfect hire on all levels and IMO the best staff in the B10, not just the B10 West. Heck you won't find a better staff with the knowledge and pedigree in the nation. Its seems people are scared to say the Illini are better than OSU, Michigan, MSU, etc. when it comes to something like this but they absolutely are.

Lovie is bringing his defense but I don't think people realize that it isn't solely the Tampa 2. That will be the base but they are going to run different variations. I say perfect because he has the perfect personnel to run it and excel. Then he will be able to go out on the recruiting trail and get some absolute monsters.

The biggest thing about all this is, this is college. It isn't the NFL where free agency and the draft can even things out (Smith still excelled there by the way). This is college football where the players you have determine if you are going to win at a much higher rate than the NFL. If I had to put a percentage on it, I would say if you have better players, you're going to win 95% of the time in college. In the NFL its probably 85% but still very high. Here the Illini will have a very big advantage talent wise against everyone they play. What makes it crazy is they'll have the coaching advantage as well. This is going to be a dynasty.

Yeah, I get that Illiniman39 is a troll, but I can't wait until NLOID next year when the Illini have the 50th-ranked recruiting class in the country. Their last five classes by Rivals (most recent first): 68th (19 recruits, not a single 4 or 5 star), 46th, 74th (17 recruits, not a single 4 or 5 star), 48th, 64th (19 recruits, not a single 4 or 5 star).
