This is a great class

It made me laugh to read the other day that some are saying this class ranks near the bottom of the Big Ten. I have looked at the other classes and the only ones that are clearly better are Ohio State, Michigan, Iowa and Nebraska. And thats if you are a "stars" guy. This is a superb class and will have us back where we belong at the top of the Big Ten in no time - we will look back and say that this class laid the foundation for the rings to follow.

FirstIy a large number of commits Zook picked up have stayed committed. That means that those guys will be elite level talent for sure. Zook was one of the best talent evaluators in the game and now we have Beckman to coach them up. Some of the under the radar guys like Bain, Spencer, Faerber and Robertson are difference makers and will see the field early. Then there are the big timers - Williams, Fuller, Ayoola - these guys are all-big-ten types for sure.

Secondly think Beckman and the staff have done a great job picking up late commits. TJ Neal is probably the pick of the class and will continue the famous Illini LB tradition. Teko Powell is an elite talent and could see the field next year at any SEC school - he will dominate in the trenches for four years. I love the Little and Church pick-ups - they will suit Beckman's style to a tee. Church could be BT FOTY this year. And Mason Monheim is the next J Leman. I am also pumped about the Bello commit today. He was one I really wanted - very underrated but watch his tape and BOOM! What a player.

FInally I am still confident we will pick up some last minute commits - Valentine and at least two others would make this one of the best classes in recent memory. I know there aren't that many big names but there is a depth of talent and potential in this class that is going to be the basis of some championships in the next few years - mark it down.

I am talking BCS baby - the Beckman train is rolling and I am on board!!!!

ILLINI!

Do these people totally lack common sense? Do they realize they're not even a blip on the national radar? That their one successful campaign in the last decade was a total fluke? Since when are multiple 3* kids all "elite talents"?

For the record, here's how their current commits rank nationally by position, per scout:

QB: --
RB: 93, 94
WR: 54, 134, 250, NR, NR
TE: --
OG: 88, 131
OT: 104
DE: --
DT: 61, 124
OLB: 93, 123
MLB: 24, 33
CB: --
S: 180
K: 15

So, the only player ranked in the Top 20 at his position is a kicker at #15. The only others in the Top 50 are a pair of MLB at 24 & 33.

The "Big Timers" that are sure fire "All Big 10" types are 3* DT (#61 DT), 3* RB (#94 RB) and 3* OLB (#94 OLB)...but hey, two of them are from Florida.

Teko Powell, the elite talent that could see action next year at any SEC school is a 2*, #124 DT...but, he is from Miami.

Devin Church, who could be this year's B1G FOY is a 3* RB...#94 RB nationally...off course he'll have to beat out "elite" RB Dami Ayoola (3* / #94 RB).

Illinois boards rival the pedtards for the funnay...just for totally different reasons.:rofl::rofl:

Then a couple of posts down:

lol, not sure if you are being sarcastic or not, but no need to drink the kool-aid, Ohio State are a cut above this year. We are close but have a way to go. We will be up with them in the next year or two though, just watch. Also the stars mean nothing, we have a team full of diamond in the rough types who will outplay some of Ohio States "can't miss" recruits. Two Star Whitney Mercilus anyone?!
Okay, that's definitely ThaKid...or somebody making fun of him.

Re: This is a great class

I'm not going to waste my time responding to the same people who keep thinking I'm London...all I will say is I agree with a lot of what you're saying London. Time will tell if its a great class but like the last few its better than some realize. I like the pieces they're adding. They just need to add more guys to win a NC and they're coming next class (That includes me).

Oh, sweet Jesus!:rofl::rofl: (oh, it hurts! It hurts!):rofl::rofl:

My thing is- Illinois has won exactly four Big Ten titles since 1954. Four.

How did they get it in their heads that the top of the Big Ten is "where they belong" with that kind of track record?

I suppose they could be pulling some Michigan-esque early 20th century glory days nostalgia since they won eleven titles in the 58 years prior to 1954.

Hell, that's a pace of almost two per decade!

Mark my words...33 offers out for 2013 already. Going to be a monster year for the Illini. B1G titles are coming...I know no one believes me but it is happening.. Trading Cordale Scott for Tim Beckman was huge. Just sniped a couple of future All-Americans from...Western Michigan and Miami (OH).
