If you were HC what would you do?

answer this honestly: do you give the same weight to an incompletion that hit the receiver right in the hands as an incompletion that bounced off the chest of the defender?

what if Gonzo caught that ball on the first drive?
what if Teddy didn't drop that ball on the first drive?
what if Hamby didn't drop that ball in the endzone?

yeah, coulda, woulda, shoulda, i know, but Justin was flat out BETTER last night... it's not even in question... the play calling was better, whether by design, or by the fact that Troy likes to run instead of going through his progressions, and Justin did not throw any questionable balls... Justin can take a snap from center without fumbling as well...

sorry, i don't care how pretty it looks as it's flying through the air, when the ball hits a defender, it's a bad pass.

I know what you are saying about a dropped ball and the shoulda, woulda, coulda but I wasnt comparing the stats besides int/td. I was just stating the intangables I feel that give us a better chance to win with Smith.

I don't if it is just me, but the people I talked about the game that have no alliance to tOSU or people that even dispise of us all said we win the game is Smith stays in.

Schoenhoft looked VERY good in the jersey scrimmage. Boeckman looked very consistent in Miami. I'm not worried about either of these younger guys - they will be good leaders in the future. We all I guess are gonna disagree on this topic. Smith looked bad last night as did Zwick. Were cutting it thin about now with our matchups. I will go and say its Tressels fault right now for being a friend and not a coach. He needs to set up a #1 - a problem he has ALWAYS had. I remember 2003 after the Michigan game - what if we had put Scott "Gunslinger" McMullen in on the last drive instead of Krenzel, who was having a bad day? Enter, 2002, that season cleaned up nicely, but was in a disarray. Now, 2005, we have a loss and can not afford another. Lets go Tressel, both these QBs have done their jobs put up with the medias criticism - time for you to do yours.

Wow. Several things...

1. Ginn is a flat-out stud. Yeah, he had a couple of drops, but that is meaningless unless it becomes a habit, which we have seen no indication of.

2. Power I, with this group, is asinine. Run the shot-Ginn, just use it effectively. Tressel lost the Texas game playing "Tressel-ball". It is his fault, period. Could I have done a better job? F no. Am I calling for his head? No way in hell. The guy is a stud of a coach, but he was out-coached, for likely the first time in his tenure here. But the L is on him.

3. Execution is key. Missed tackles and dropped passes were the most obvious problems OSU had on Saturday. As several have mentioned, if Hamby would have caught that TD...if Hall would have caught that first down....if Ginn would have caught either one of those screen passes....if, if, if. The fact of the matter is, the Buckeyes had multiple TREMENDOUS scoring opportunities, but due to pathetic play calling and failed execution, they only scored FG's.

4. I love the fact we have two quarterbacks that talented enough to start for tOSU. Zwick vs. Smith will be a front-page thread for the next year and a half, barring injury, and that IS a good thing. But those of you who believe that Smith played better than Zwick on Saturday are wrong. I'm not saying Zwick is a better QB, but he clearly out-played Smith (and for the first time, IMO). Granted, Smith's hands were tied by the play-calling, but Zwick did NOT make the mistakes he generally makes, and his passes looked very sharp. He was able to check down when needed, he did NOT have happy feet when getting pressured (avoided pressure while still looking downfield), and especially in the second half, did NOT lock onto Holmes (or any other WR). He looked very good, and if the protection would have averaged just one second longer per pass play, I'm sure he would have made Texas look foolish.

As much as these boards are for discussing and debating, every breakdown, analysis, and personnel opinion is just teeth grinding frustration with zero purpose. Shoulda, coulda, woulda...

The above quote describes the game in a nutshell...although I edited out the playcalling opinion but that is for another day.

When you have numerous chances to put away a good team, you must take them. When you have numerous chances to put away a GREAT team, you HAVE TO take them. If not, you lose. tOSU did not execute when they needed to do so...

IMHO the jury is still out wrt whether either of these guys is good. I have not seen either of them have two successive good games. JZ played well against Miami(OH) but threw a stupid pick and that's the closest I have seen to two consecutive good games.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but did it seem like most of the dropped passes came when Zwick was playing? I am in no way saying they were his fault or anything, but to me it seemed like the majority of them came from a Zwick pass...it didn't look like he was throwing too hard? But then again my view from C-Deck could have been a little distorted :wink2:

we need to THROW THE FREAKING BALL..let ginn run some long routes..tell smith he will get shot in the knee if he keeps running the ball so damn much..

the offense looked wonderful against miami, now i understand that it was miami and this was texas..but the look of the offense shouldnt change from team to team..and against texas it just seemed like we were being so conservative..it was like we werent trying..i remember what, one long ball?? let freakin ginn and holmes run, lets open things up a little bit more..

My sense with the whole Zwick-Smith pissing matches is this...

1. There are a lot more fans that want Zwick to succeed personally than Smith. I think is based on the hype he received coming in, and that after last year, he is somewhat of a sympathetic figure.

2. Zwick has played well.

3. Smith, despite the numbers, played well. Although he was rusty - and it showed. He threw two passes that should have been picked.

4. Both threw nice TD passes. (counting Zwick's to Hamby)

5. Zwick's fumble at the end, no matter what spin you put on it, was bad. Real bad. And at the worst time. And I think it has to do with the fact that Zwick is just a nervous guy.

6. Smith gives us more options. I will not argue this point. We can argue about who throws a better ball, or whatever. But, this is not debatable.

7. JT needs to pick one of them. Now. Not tommorrow. Not after breakfast now. I'm a Smit guy personally. But, someone needs to be picked. He's seen both QBs enough. There should be no more indecisiveness.

-Im neither a Smith or a Zwick "guy". I'm a Buckeye.

I think we need to name a QB. Personally, I think Zwick looked sharp against Miami, and I think he was getting it going against Texas before Smith was brought in. The drops really hurt on the frst series.

Zwick looked in command of the huddle and I didn't see the "happy feet" that I've seen in the past He would get my vote.

On the other hand....Smith has the Michigan performance and a 4-1 starter record. That is tough to keep on the bench.

I trust whatever JT decides...but I do hope he names a #1 guy a rolls with him.

I just wished he would of stuck with one guy in the Texas game. When Smith came in and was winning he should of stuck with him, and said he is our starter from here out. It would of helped a bunch confusion, I feel the offense has when they don't know who the starter is.
