If you were HC what would you do?

Ok, let's pretend you were the HC and had to prepare for next weeks game. What would you do?

Here are my ideas:

Take a look at Boeckman for one quarter or a half. Evaluate him. If he's more effective in the game than our starters, let him play out the game.

If it appears he is not the answer, pick a guy based on the scheme you want to run. For me, it's the Pro-Set and I. It gives us immense flexibility and does not hurt us in the Red Zone like the Spread seems too. Plus it gives us more protection if necessary and we can even stretch the field vertically from it. I think TS and TB are better suited to this scheme.

I liked seeing Carp on the line against Texas. I thought after that adjustment we got tremendous pressure on VY. Let's stick with it and maybe some of our DL will come to life as opposing teams isolate Carp.

Let's get some coaching on Ginn. He needs to use his speed on returns and stop dancing...we can coach the dancing out of him. Let's get more Gonzo and Hall in and less Ginn. Let's scrap the ShotGinn....an occasional FL screen is fine. No need to force things when we are having trouble with the basics.

And yes, I know less about football than JT has forgotten but it's fun to discuss nonetheless.

I disagree with this because I think this could just lead to a greater controversey, and I don't think that's what this team need right now. Just pick a QB and stick with him.

Somewhat agree with you, but the coaches will keep the spread (as I think they should).

Totally agree. Carp is the do-all guy and I love him. He gives the team a great amount of flexability. He's a very intricate part of our D.

I totally disagree. Although it may not look like it, Ginn is doing a lot for this team. He's opening up a ton of room for other guys. He made Texas use 2 guys on him every play. He's still our most dangerous weapon. I think he just needs to let the game come to him and not try to force everything.

Go Bucks!!! Come back strong next week!

I anxiously await Freeman's return and go to a 3-4... to guarantee complete destruction of any offense that dare take the field...

Great to move Carp to a roving Backer coming off the edge.

Probably makes too much sense to implement, though, IMHO.:oh: :io:

I agree, the 3-4 would be pure mayhem.

On Defense:

Start getting Ginn some reps. If they are gonna cover him so much that he wont get catches. So, on instances like 4th & 10 (how Texas scored) man Teddy up on a zone coverage where our secondary is getting burnt (we know hes the fastest on our team).

We gotta find a place either for Schlegal or Carpenter. Hawk seems to be doing is own thing dropping into coverage, blizting. But Carp is either on the line or blitzing. Schlegal has been good, but not great, the LB Corps is carring him alot. We need him to stuff the middle a lot harder. Work him into plays.

Offense:

-Ginn needs his own position, the starting flanker job just doesnt seem to be doing well
-Gonzo should be given a look as the #1 flanker till Ginn can step his game up and challenge. Just because Ginn has the best speed and the biggest name, doesnt make him the best player. Youve got to earn the spot EVERY game.
- Start Smith. Yes, he fucked up, but he payed his dues. We cant hesitate to pull Justin and start Smith like last year. Now is the time to make a move and to really get this offense going.
- Add in some old with some new. Bring back the power I a lil bit, but spread the ball up until the red zone with the shot gunn formations.
- When we get in the red zone, if one play works for good yards, lets learn to go no huddle and run it again.

- WIN!!!

get ginn in there on defense, seriously, everett is not going anywhere, hes not fit to be a starter, im tired of seeing him screw up, put ginn in a corner.

make the team hungry, make the team mad. make them take the games one at a time, and make them physically destroy every team one by one. we have the players and coaches to make it happen. there was a pregame speech by woody hayes my dad told me about, and he simply said, "you will win this game, because you are ohio state, they will be intimidated by you, and as soon as you take the field, the game will be over."

the texas game made us realize that this team is one of the tops in the nation, if not the best. they are hungry and want to make a statement, combine that with all the talent and speed, power and coaching that we have and you will see, the most dominant big 10 season that you have ever dreamed of.

Putting a 3rd QB into the mix (Beckman) solves nothing.

You're right...Tressel knows who he wants playing based on practice...a 3rd QB is not going to help at all

Also, I still want Ginn in on offense even if he isn't playing his best. He gets 2 guys on him and frees up Holmes, who played like a stud last night. Unless Ginn severely declines I like him in there

A very poor idea. Boeckman, I hope, will drive the bus sooner or later, but to put him in now is ridiculous. He's 3rd string for a reason, and tossing him in as a band-aid to address what didn't work against Texas is foolish, in my view.

If I'm HC, I say give Smith the ball. Until he gets injured or shows he lost whatever he "had." He was surely rusty last night. I admit that. But, as I said at half last night on the Game thread, "one thing is for sure, this is Troy Smith's team." I still believe that, even if Smith didn't re-do his Michigan 04 performance. In my view, Smith should have been in on the last drive (the one where Zwick fumbled - I'm not calling the Safety a "Drive") But, it's easy to second guess.

WHOEVER is saying that we should throw in MORE power-I is out of his or her mind.

Unfortunately, we DO NOT HAVE the personel for a power-I attack. I believe this was demonstrated in our up-the-guts with Pittman. Our line was consistently blown up, and Tony got hurt. And I'm not impressed withour fullbacks, either.

We DO have the personel for a spread-option attack. A fast back who has a stiffarm, a quick QB, and amazing receivers.
