If you don't wear scarlet on Saturday, are you a jerk?

They can do whatever the [censored] they want. And I can call them losers. Sorry, but that's what they are... an embarrassment.

EDIT: And when my 59-year-old dad goes to the games with his alumni tickets that he's been buying since 1973, he just wears his OSU hat and sweatshirt. He doesn't dress like some douchebag attention whore.

And some might call a 59 year old man naked from the waist down a douchebag attention whore.

I suppose you're suggesting I'm glad he's dead, which is utterly absurd and ridiculous.

I don't mind him so much.

I'm talking more along the lines of these losers, who are always hogging for the television:

BuckIGuy_display_image.jpg

You do know this guy always dresses like this, right?

I really don't mind them/pay attention to them. They like Ohio State football, and they have never bothered me. Any team with some kind of following will have crazy fans like this. Not what I would do, but it isn't really my place to judge them either. I don't really think too many non-tOSU fans look at them and say, what an embarrassment to The Ohio State University, and even if non-tOSU fans do look at them and say that, who gives a fuck, because they are too stupid to be tOSU fans.

Are you glad the Neutron Man is not there anymore? Do you wish he had never started showing his enjoyment of the Pointer Sisters? You do know that they would not be playing Neutron Dance at the 'Shoe anymore if he hadn't given it its Buckeye notoriety. :tongue2:

Some folks are losers while others who dress up are not. Only certain people can tell the difference. So now we know that OH1O is the guy to see about which folks are embarrassing to the program and which aren't. Maybe the stadium could set you up a booth near the main entry (as if there were such a thing) and let you choose who is wearing the "losers attire" and who is wearing the "correct attire" for cheering at Ohio State. Turn away Captain Buckeye but allow Roger Thomas. Please forward your list of OH1O approved criteria to the university ASAP.

He's the one you sit quietly with and knit while the ball is in play. You interrupt your talk about soap operas to complain that the embarrassing losers in the crowd are too boisterous. :wink2:

Stop insulting the Neutron Man. He didn't dress up like a moron and demand the spotlight. He sat in B Deck and danced once a quarter....and otherwise didn't do anything to draw attention to himself. He's not any of those other tool bags.

And only half of the games were even televised in his hey-day.

I always kind of enjoyed Neutron Man. He seemed to genuinely care about the university and its players while having a good time. He was a part of the gameday experience - not some buffoon on television waving his index finger around.

I can even remember him at Block O events being kind of the life of the party. And boy could he drink.

That's silly. I can recognize one's right to dress however they like and yet still retain my right to call them what they are... losers.

Hardly.

I, and the rest of the cheerleaders, would go to Orlas's tailgate after every home game. He did like to drink, but I remember he always had a mixture of the most white trashy beer. Of course we drank it and had a blast there, but I still chuckle, and think of him when ever I see one of these obscure cheap beers. Orlas was not an attention whore, and supported the OSUMB, and Cheerleaders through money, and appearances. Great Buckeye!

I wasn't around for his time, but from the bits and pieces I've picked up, he would be just as happy cheering way out of view of the cameras, up in the corner of B or C deck.

That's the thing that always bugs me the most. Dress up, go nuts, do your little traditions, but do it to support the team, not so you can enjoy the fame and attention on national TV.

In 1987 I sat 2 rows behind the band, about 10-20 rows in front of Orlas. I didn't know he was called "Neutron Man" at that point; he was just the guy who danced crazy once in awhile. IIRC, his dancing was the 3rd/4th quarter transition "tradition" back then, while Hang on Sloopy was played periodically thoughout the game.

My most vivid memory of him was the look on his face during the Michigan State game that year. After a 76 yard pass to Everett Ross to start the game, the offense was even more helpless against the Spartans than they were this year. When the end of the 3rd quarter came around, I stood up and turned around to watch him as the band started playing; but he just sat there with the most dejected look I have ever seen on a person's face.

I raised my arms, motioning for him to stand up. I'm sure others must have done this too... Suddenly the sullen expression gave way to a look of resignation which hardened into cold resolve. You could see him thinking that he had to get over himself and do what he could to fire up the crowd because the team needed something. He started dancing stiffly, as if willing himself to do it against the weight of his emotions. But as the crowd responded, he responded in return with the most energetic Neutron Dance that I can recall. It wasn't about him. Not to him anyway. It was all about the Buckeyes.

Rest In Peace Mr. King
