If Tressel retired today, who would you want to replace him?

Fickell or Hazel

Either would be a great choice imo.

:osu:

No disrespect intended to either of them but IF the job came open I'd want someone with HC experience. I'd take Harbaugh over them. That would really piss off the scUM crowd. :wink2:

Harbaugh would be great. Meyer, Stoops. I would like someone with extensive experience in handling a program of this magnitude. Now, that's not to say these guys wouldn't be a success (heck, look at Tressel). But, it would make lil' ole me feel more secure in the future.

I know Michigan hired Bo..but I don't think I could stomach having a Michigan man as our head coach..I just couldn't. I mean just imagine if that situation didn't work out..total nightmare.

Oh and theres some rumors being spread that Tressel is stepping down, Gene Smith already denying it via twitter.

That has been out since last night. It's been refuted.

When posting information about rumors, it's best to check the rumor mill before posting.

if tressel is gone, the job is bo pellini's to turn down.

pellini said that nebraska was his dream job, but if ohio state comes knocking, i can't imagine that he'd say no to 1) one of *the* blue chip coaching jobs in the US and 2) alma mater.

If this needs added to the rumor mill thats fine... I just haven't gotten my access yet(i forgot to request...doh)

Quick read of the refuted article and a thought came up....

What if all of this is a small read on the fact that Meyer is going to replace Tress... next year.

OSU said that all of the issues were brought to them on Dec 7th.... Meyer resigns on Dec 9th...
Hazell moves on to Kent State... no need for him in a Meyer ran team...
2 huge recruits switch from Florida to OSU almost out of the blue...
Meyer would need to say what he said to avoid a huge media debacle...
Tress and Gene would cover this til after the bowl...
The current class is all that would be needed for Meyer to be successful...
NCAA weirdly rules that All players involved allowed to play in Sugar bowl... Tress' last Bowl game...

I maybe looking to deep into this but I thought about it for a while and it would make sense.

While there is SOME semblance of logic to this it still doesn't answer the "why".

What reason would Tressel have for stepping down?

Eh I seriously doubt it. Meyer would look really bad for doing that.

And a reporter said "I've worked with Tress for 7 years, it doesn't seem like his personality to leave when things get tough" or something along those lines.

And Florida would probably sue us.

Tress hasn't been himself over this year and knowing the kind of guy he is some things would make sense....

His wife being ill earliet this past year....
His stress level rising ... ala going off at half of state penn ... and whether people believe my vid or not... he cursed on the sideline... uncharacteristic of him...
And knowing he is a christian.... maybe bad things coming out of him has forced him to reevaluate coaching.. and making sure he and his wife are spending time together.... or for those inclined maybe God asked him to step down( i know... blasphemy)

His wording in some of the presser showed how hurt he was by these kids having issues...maybe just getting tired how many kids he is responsible for and the way things come down sometimes especially with kids he trusts more like herron who has a father that is a pastor...

i also heard that he declined to go to a banquet that osu coaches have been going to for years a few years back or less and the thing died....

not saying it is true by any means but I could understand... he is a class guy and cares for his wife and family first... football isn't his #1 passion unfortunately for the fans.... I am thoroughly glad he has been our coach for this long... he will be a legend for years to come whenever he decides to go... and if he would be deciding to leave he would leave the program with a full cupboard and with the university in mind... Class.
