If Tressel retired today, who would you want to replace him?

And Florida would probably sue us.

Since Urban resigned ... wouldn't they sue him??? It would be his decision to stay home. I think we can also all agree that the Big Ten isn't as intense as the SEC when it comes to some of the cutthroat things that happen...

Even the Minny/Wisky episode was over the top for the Big Ten...

This is home for Meyer... This came up right when Urban resigned... Everyone debunked it then... again not that I hope it happens or that it is true... just something to be ready for if it does happen... OSU could do worse than Meyer.

Maybe man, maybe. Who knows. It will be a sad, sad day when he isn't coaching the team anymore, though. I don't think I'm prepared to not have Tressel around.

I agree... he has been nothing but Positive for us as fans, our players , and our University... He definitely will be adored for a long time here.

Though with a man like Tressel at the helm, it would almost take a HUGE paradigm shift for fans to move into a new era. Especially Buckeye fans, who at the deepest level are DEEPLY rooted in tradition and allegiance. Something like this, coupled with what's already going on would be something many change-adverse Buckeyes would have a hell of a time getting over.

I was just saying they'd probably think we tampered, with him resigning 2 days after the TatGate incident first arose.

But definitely. Urban Meyer is a very good person in my opinion. And he's obviously a great coach. He'd be great here whenever Tressel decides to move on to his higher callings.

We are entering a new era next season with the new conference divisions and a championship game. It is plausible that Tress steps down and a new coach is hired to usher in the new era of Big Ten football.

What if all of this is a small read on the fact that Meyer is going to replace Tress... next year.

OSU said that all of the issues were brought to them on Dec 7th.... Meyer resigns on Dec 9th...

I can't buy that timeline at all. Meyer would have already notified Jeremy Foley of his decision before tOSU even talked to the players involved with the merchandise found at the tattoo parlor.

I don't think the rumors are true.

But I do think that we may see the start of 'the beginning of the end' for Tressel's era at OSU as HC of football.

His contract ends in 2014. Most here (as far as I've seen) believe that he will not renew his contract. I think that, with everything going on, there is about a 10% chance he will renew or extend. Likely, he will quit that year and move on to a permanent assistant AD job.

That makes far more sense than a tinfoil hat Meyer-to-OSU rumor. Far more pieces are set in place for Tress to leave in 2014, especially with Hazell leaving for Kent State. That gives him 4 years to prove that he is worthy of the OSU job, or give us plenty of time to lock in on another guy.

Either way, even if Tress went 9-3 the rest of his tenure at OSU, it will be a sad day to see him leave. Tressel is the reason I started watching Ohio State football in 2002.

I'd love to see:

Meyer - HC
Hazell - OC
Fickel - DC

Between all three the recruiting connections in Ohio and FL/GA would be awesome!
Meyer is a proven coach (yes, a very down year in 2010 but we had our 2004) who might be successful in bringing some better OL/DL (to me the biggest causes of the BCSNCG losses were differences between the lines)
Fickell seems like he'd be pretty aggressive on D
Hazell seems like/was our best offensive mind already.

Issues:
I don't think Hazell will go "backward" in title b/c I think he will be successful at KSU.
Too many anti-Meyer folks; however I am getting a big laugh at those who savaged Meyer in order to help build up their candidate Pelini.... only to see Pelini is MORE emotional. So much backtracking, hahahahahaha!!!

I think Meyer would want to bring in one of this own guys though on offense anyway, or at least a guy similar in philosophy. Not saying Hazell couldn't be the OC of a Meyer offense..but the philosophy is different at least between the offenses Meyer and Tressel runs..not sure how much of a Tresselball philosopher Hazell is (we'll see pretty soon I'd guess) but I'd imagine they fall along similar lines.

I don't think Fickell is ready to be a HC yet...give him about five years as DC and/or Asst HC and then he'd be ready. If any of our younger coaches would be ready to step in as HC, it would be Hazell.

Carroll, Stoops, Mason, and even Randy Walker would be good choices.

I think you could add Mark Richt to that list.

Bo Pelini could be an option as well. He interviewed for the UF job, so he's apparently not married to Nebraska.

There is essentially zero chance Richt ever leaves the southeast.

No he didn't. The rumors were he was interviewing for the Cryami job, but Osborn and Pelini said they were false. He was not released to interview for the Cryami job and there wasn't even a rumor that he was being looked at by UF....
