If Andy Reid called for the punt team, and TO refused to leave the field...

Maybe I'm missing something really easy here, but what exactly does TO have to do with anything? Either this is basically a "everyone's golden boy Peyton Manning is really a dick" thread, or a "Should the QB be able to tell the coach to go for it" thread. If it's the latter, I think the QB can say you're going for it anytime he wants...if the coach goes along with it, then it's on the coach. If he doesn't, he sends the punt team out, and if Manning refuses to leave, you call a time out and tell him to take a seat on the bench. Simple as that, but the onus is on the coach. How would we ever know whether the coach got talked into going for it or if he was too chicken to show up his $90 million player? We wouldn't.

I think if 99% of other QBs in the NFL attempted the same thing Peyton did, they would be told to sit their asses on the bench.

What's the difference?

Manning has more control over the game than I've ever seen as a QB. He uses the playclock to his advantage, calling out blocking assignments, reading coverages, making audibles, calling hot routes, communicating with TEN OTHER PLAYERS on the field.

I'd take his judgement over most offensive coordinators in the NFL :P.

That isn't an exaggeration, either. He plays smart football, and isn't that what it's about? He made the best choice for the team. And only Peyton could do that for his team.

Manning lost only five games in Isidore Newman High in New Orleans, but three of those losses came in the state playoffs. He did not win a state championship.
He lost only six games at Tennessee, but famously three of those losses were to Florida, and the Volunteers did not win the national championship until after he left.

Wow.

Andy Reid's a fat fuck

he's also a great coach.
