I stand with Jim Tressel - How Firm Thy Friendship

I will stand with Jim Tressel.

I can recall another great coach who had been disgraced and had disgraced Ohio State before a national audience. In one instant he had destroyed all the good things that he had accomplished over a life time. All those good deeds, all those good works, all those unselfish sacrifices wiped out in one second. All because he made one mistake.

I can recall those cold winter days of 1979 where a great proud Buckeye Nation stood split. Even though he was no longer our active coach, a good part of the Buckeye Nation rallied to that old man to let him know that he would always be OUR coach. I stood with Woody then and I stand with Jim Tressel today.

In a world that is fickle, one day with you and the next day against you. Jim Tressel needs to know that he is not alone.

JT

As I read through numerous posts and listened to many media talking heads, two things are common:

1. They assumed JT had bad intention not to report because of the possibility to win the national championship in 2010. Once that believe is etched in their hearts and minds, these folks can not think...what if??

2. These folks have NEVER been involved in a federal criminal drug trafficking investigation. As such, they have no clue to the potential ramafications to all who are involved and thus "not buying" the scared theory nor the confidentiality perspective.

Once you have 1 or 2 or both (like Bruce Hooley, Collin Cowherd, etc), you can not see things clearly nor do you want to entertain the thought that JT truly cares for his players and that he made a genuine mistake on how to handle such delicate matter that could harm lives. Nor could you entertain the thought that JT DID contact his own attorney who then contacted the Feds and was adviced to not tell anyone for fear of leaking out important information on potential arrests of bigger fish then Mr. Ed. You do know that once the NCAA knows, then the whole world will know soon after, right?...how do you think Yahoo Sports found out OSU's own internal investigation since Jan 13th? BTW, once the facts are clear in December that the OSU players are not part of the drug trafficking investigation, who do you think then immediately disclose the infraction of selling those gold pants? Do I even need to answer that?

Folks, if JT is so bend on winning, then why hasn't he been bad mouthing other coaches to win recruits? Have you ever heard JT bad mouthing anyone in the coaching rank? Have you ever heard JT blaming officials for losing a game or making bad calls? Have you ever heard JT making false claims to win recruits? Do you remember that infamous Minnesota OT that ended up in USC (now Miami)? He did not come here because him and his dad think JT was boring...the father stated that all JT talks about was education! That's right, BORING! you think old Pete and Lane are this "boring"?

Go Bucks!

Spread the truth like butter, my man. Like butter.

I hope JT reads these forums, if for nothing else then to see posts like this.

This thread reminded me of an exchange I had years ago with a passenger on a flight returning to Wichita, where I live now. He noticed my OSU sweatshirt and said, "You know football season is over." To this I replied the same thing I've had to remind too many people of lately, Being a Buckeye isn't seasonal for a real fan. I'm a Buckeye all the time. Today is no different than three days before that. Not that anyone hear needs to hear it again, but it makes me feel deep pride to say it again...I'm a Buckeye all the time.

This may have been said, but whether or not I support Tressel as a coach after all the facts come out does not affect whether I would always be behind him as a person or friend-- not that that means anything real. He never calls. :-/

Bob Knight in USA Today: "There is no coach in college sports that's a better example, in my mind, of what coaching is all about and what it should be and how things should be done than Jimmy Tressel."

Not sure how much of a complement that is.

Kinda like Milli Vanilli saying that Justin Timberlake is the most genuinely gifted pop star out there.

Not drawing comparisons to the people / names, just trying to say that a statement about "how things should be done" coming from BK doesn't really carry a lot of currency.

Why not? Because he was a dickhead?
