I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

Definitely the most condescending single group/classification of people I've encountered.

My feeling on this has always been that because someone is willing to pay them $X00 an hour for certain work, they (not I) assume that every hour of their (not my) day is worth that no matter what they're doing. Of course, this couldn't be farther from the truth, but since their (not my) self worth is entirely a function of their hourly rates, they display that incredibly condescending attitude.

You owe me v$40 for reading that, Rugby.

To further cheer you up, here is a picture of the bus that exploded, killing 24 senior citizens. :tongue2:

Eh, not doing it for me. Honestly, it was never the actual situation that really made me laugh, but rather the specific look on that woman's face and the sound of pure excruciating pain I imagined her making.

I know nothing of commas and I am sure peach cringes when she reads my posts.

If you get fired I do not believe you can get unemployment. Doesn't it have to be a staff reduction? Fired implies you did something wrong. I imagine every state has different laws as we cover this every year in one of the national conventions I attend. If you resigned they are covered. The best plan is to say your wrist hurts, you can't type anymore and get disability.

I am playing devils advocate, in some ways. I think Peach is correct. You can be fired for just about anything as long as it is not being based on sex, religion, race or other protected classes. I do not understand why they just did not go ahead and fire VR if that is what they wanted to do. Maybe they thought he would come around?

Like I said I am a workaholic and I get paid on profits so I am motivated a little differently than others here. To me 6 sick days off in a year sounds like a lot. I think I mentioned I get 10 holidays and 3 weeks of vacation which I rarely take all of it. I just negoitiated a contract and the customer wanted to know about our holidays. I told him we get the standard ones and Mardi Gras for a total of 10. He is in retail, they only get Christmas off.

So how is the novel coming?

In Ohio, I believe it depends on the justification for firing. Most of the employees my company has fired have been able to get unemployment, even when fired justifiably for reasons such as excessive tardiness, no call/no show, etc.

Hey, that's why they're called dreams, compadre.

While we're on the subject, let's say I did find a job that started before my official date of termination. Am I legally at fault for just walking out and taking the new position?

By my understanding, not unless you're under some sort of contract. Two weeks notice is just a professional courtesy whose necessity totally depends on your need for a recommendation.

You could quit tomorrow if you like.
The recommendation thing is pretty sketchy also. All anyone says today is what dates the person worked and whether they would be rehired.
Anything else and lawsuits happen.
