All of downtown has been evacuated for the most part. All the bridges over the Cedar River are flooded except one. It's pretty bad. They say the river has NEVER reached this high and it's not expected to peak until tomorrow. I haven't seen anything up close...they won't let you get in. But the pics on the news say it all. Over 10,000 people have been evacuated but there's a lot of businesses downtown that must be devastated. Parking decks I've heard are flooded up to the 2nd levels!

Anyway, we live far enough outside of town that it's not affecting us. Lost some power yesterday but nothing major. The damage is to the downtown along the river obviously...and Cedar Rapids has a great downtown area with lots of business and restaraunts...very sad.

Thanks for your concern.

Check out our newspaper online if you want to look at some of the pictures and video...

We had some wind and thunder, but not more than a couple drops of rain fell in GC. My sister-in-law near Harmon & Greenlawn, maybe 4 miles from us, was getting hit with torrential wind, hail, and very strong winds. Numerous trees torn down all along Parsons this morning.

Crazy weather.

Ducks to the rescue in flooding

JS Online: Tornadoes, flash floods spread misery in state

The World War II Ducks built between 1942 and 1945 were used to rescue people stranded in Baraboo. Ducks are used in the Dells for boat tours on the river. Not too bad for a 60 year old relic. There are many of these still in service (50 or so with more in storage for parts)

Andrea Novotny, spokeswoman for the Original Wisconsin Ducks ? the watercraft made famous during World War II for their ability to haul troops and supplies over land and sea ? said that about six or seven Ducks from her company and about three from the Dells Army Ducks had started rescuing residents late Thursday afternoon after the Baraboo Police and Fire departments requested that the half-boat, half-truck vehicles help them move trapped residents to higher ground in downtown Baraboo.

We are trying to plan an exit to dryer land and return home from our soggy vacation in Wisconsin. They do call this the water park capital of the world. It lived up to its reputation this week. :grr:

Well the Bunkers are home now. Leaving the Dells proved to be problematic. The intersate was closed due to high water and that forced everyone to take secondary roads. So, armed with my trusty laptop, I found the Wiscy DOT and there map of road closures. We got turned back at two bridges trying to reach I-90 near Madison. Very frustrating. Finally, we reached I-94 and found it clear to Milwaukee. Hey we could have stopped to see Leverne and Shirley! :)

No real traffic issues for the balance of the trip but let me tell you it was hard to tell whether the standing water we saw was a due to overflowing lakes or a flooded field. What a mess. The Bunkers were happy to be Home.

BTW, I saw gas on the Indiana Toll road for $4.39 a gallon.

Storms this morning here in Columbus were pretty intense for about 45 minutes. Lost power a few times for about 10 minutes each. Woke my ass up, and I never wake up in the middle of the night.

All hell is breaking loose here in Mahoning County, and I'm not talking about the murder rate in Youngstown. :wink2:

Nasty storms with hail and high winds in the area as I type.
