Round two is supposed to come here Thursday with anywhere from 6-10 inches of snow. That was the call for last night, but the prediction and reality were completely off. We had maybe 4 inches of snow here in Akron.

Well, looks like it gonna get somewhat warmer the next few days, I would say something snarky but I know most people there aren't prepared to deal with that.

yep Saturday its gonna be 60 but before then we’re getting more freezing rain and snow and temps barely above freezing .. they should be able to last right 72+ hours with out power and probably without water?

Apparently, Texas has its own power grid (there three total in the US) because Texas, and since it doesn't cross state lines is exempt from a lot of the federal rules and regulations that the other two are bound by.
whole other thread in the poli forum but yes. They kept their own grid separate to avoid Federal Regs...

Most people... no. First extended power outage we had (in my house) was 8 days (Hurricane Ike) - the first one always sucks the most.

But winter is almost impossible if you don't have gas or oil heat. (I mean, you can only push so many space heaters for so long with a generator....) But if you can get your furnace booted up, its possible... though, pretty super lame.

In the summer? You'll get tired of camping but, 35-5500 watt generator (sine wave convertor is a plus) a gas grill and plenty of beer, you'll be ok.

(if you have a freezer in the basement or one with extra room, always have gallons and half gallons of ice ready, its the first thing to disappear, even if you can power your fridge and freezer)

The good news about -4 is it's a lot less slippery! And 18 feels like a heat wave. When the storm first hit I saw -11 and thought that can't be possible, right? Naaaa! It really was -11 that morning.

Not trying to get into a partisan political fight. Just pointing out that the Texas grid is fundamentally different than the rest of the country. Any R v. D discussion that ensues absolutely belongs in poli.
