 Yeah, I usually go outside and watch unless it gets out of hand. I was outside watching the lightning and wind from the bad storm we had in Columbus a few days ago until a massive wall of water drenched me immediately. Then I watched from my window. Not as awesome. :(

Yeah luckily we have a patio that's covered to the West and South, but the winds were so strong when the initial part of the storm rolled through that the rain just blew in, so I stood closer toward the corner until the heavy rain stopped. There's a walkway just outside the patio that flooded within 2 or 3 minutes. The rain was crazy for about 10 minutes.

I tend to not even pay attention to the weather media in general unless the storm dropped a tornado just before it reached my area. I just pull up about 3 different weather sites and go straight to the radar/sat. maps and compare it to what I'm seeing outside.

I like the method of licking my finger and sticking it in the air. Always accurate 60% of the time.

.../snip/...Most of us were excited to hear that (I've never heard a tornado siren before that).

.../snip/...

I just can't understand why people get so scared of storms.

.../snip/...

There's a relationship between those two statements.

Growing up in a town that was the poster child for tornado (or in our case multiple funnels combining into one) damage, and which has been hit 3 times in the past 40 years, gives one a slightly different perspective on what storms are capable of.

There's a difference between fear & respect gained through experience.

That being said I stood on the porch watching the storm line until the wind really started blowing & the hail began to come down...

Holy shit, I don't think I've ever had a lightning bolt strike so close to me! I could see the bolt through my blinds and it was immediately followed by two sounds that were like someone firing a .50cal right behind my apartment. Happened twice, and the second bolt caused enough vibration to knock a few dishes off the stack by the sink.

Surprised I didn't lose power after those two, but the lights have flickered once or twice. The rain is really coming down now.
