so i am up....not really sure how I am going to get to work

lots of snow in some places, wind is incredible, thunder and lightning

i can barely see across my street to the other homes....went out to assess my alley and consider driving to work--drifts over a foot in the alley make it less than likely i make it to the street--and i have 4-wheel drive

i really really really do not want to walk to the nearest EL stop and wait for a train.....FML

It just started snowing (again) in NH. Yesterday we got 6'', today we're supposed to get another 12-14. I have already shoveled my roof twice this winter, going back up today. I can easily step from my roof's lowest point directly onto a snowbank. Good grief.

Sidewalks are quite literally unable to be walked on. OSU doesn't cancel classes. 45 people went to the OSU Med Center yesterday because of injuries from falling on ice on the way to class.

:roll1:

Didn't you complain in the other thread it wasn't as big of a deal as they made it out to be?

Suck it up junior.

Only 45....our of 60,000...thats nothing. You all have becoem weak, students see some flurries and expect to get a day off.

I was referring to the roads.

The ice on the sidewalks aren't comparable to seeing flurries and wanting a day off. Not remotely the same. I would walk down on the roads, but I tried that yesterday and ended up covered in slush. I normally don't care if classes are canceled or not.. but not today.

I'm taking the day off anyways.

The snow is ending in the NW suburbs, we're at 22 inches in this area, just in the last 18 hours.

O'Hare currently is at 19.5 inches, which makes it officially the 3rd heaviest showfall in Chicago's history so far - the record is 23 inches from 1967.

Local TV showed some film they took of TWC's Jim Cantore last night - he was leaning into the wind, which was just whipping by - there were 60 and 70 mph winds in the area. There was also thundersnow - Cantore was being filmed live when a boomer cracked over his head, and he said 'Jesus Christ -Holy s...' in the middle of his broadcast - pretty funny to see a hurricane and tornado chaser like him react like that.

Not as bad as everyone else here, but no matter how you slice ...Texas, especially central Texas isn't cut out for 20 degrees, 20mph wind... we are having rolling blackouts all day to keep up with the electricity demand...

OSU cancelled class in the early 90s when I was there - due to extreme cold. They said it was the first time since Vietnam war protests that they had cancelled.
