Yesterday we had the first tornado on Oahu since I've been in Hawaii (there was a waterspout that came ashore and up the hills a few years back, but that didn't count). I think it was actually a dust devil on roids, but since it reached from ground to the clouds (and at least one witness said it grew out of the cloud and not from the ground), it was technically a tornado. It was categorized as an F0 (weakest) and occured in Kapolei which is about 15 miles west of Honolulu and about 10 miles from Mililani:

Amazing pictures; but since your last tornado they have changed the classification scales. That looks like a solid EF 1 to me. Was the NWS out already to asses the damage?

What's even better are the guys building the house just standing on the roof watching, smooth move fellas. That's exactly where I would want to be.

Eh, if Mili is correct and it was an "F-0"...the highest windspeed is what...85mph? I've been on twelve foot poured walls (8" thick) holding a three foot by eight foot aluminum panel and although it was a bit shaky...not really all THAT scary.

Its not the Tornado itself that bothers me, but what can usually fly around with it.

Right, but an F-0 isn't much of a tornado. I mean, from what I heard, we had 60mph gusts here yesterday. Knocked over some fence here and there, a couple smaller dead branches and ripped off some siding and shingles here and there...but it's not like there were cows and cars flying around.

Snowing like a bastard. Can't complain though, been a relatively mild winter thus far. Sick of the roller coaster temperatures though. Looking forward to a nice 5 day vacation in Curacao next week...mid eighties...ahhhhhh....
