How would you gameplan against OSU

Well, LSU could do what Illinois did -

Have the DBs play 8 - 10 yards off the WR, and hope OSU (as they did not against Ill) never adjusts to the free 5 yards they're allowing, in hopes of hitting the deep ball.

As for stopping OSU's run, I don't think that's possible. Contain it, but not stop it would be the hope. My guess is because LSU's relative strength on the Dline comes inside, OSU will try to hit plays off tackle, so I'd say LSU's LBs will have to do well covering the edges.

LSU...don't let the game go into over time! :tongue2:
Wonder what they would be thinking if it went into OT?

Overtime is fine, it is the third overtime that would make 'em nervous. If we were to make it to the fourth ot period, would we then breath a sigh of relief?

"I'll have another crown and coke please." That would be me.

But it depends on the situation. It we gave up the lead like we did in the UK game. "What the hell! You've got to be fucking kidding me?!"

Or we score late to send it to over time. "YES! DID YOU SEE THAT. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!?"

Yeah, exactly right...

I think I would have said... give up the underneath passes, take away the deep passes and hope we abandon the run, like idiots... but...we've done it before.

Put a lot of guys in the box and try to shut down Beanie Wells. Make Todd Boeckman make plays downfield by making Boeckman beat you deep. The average person can look at film and figure out Boeckman has underthrown a lot of passes this year. Pressure Boeckman, he has not really been highly tested this year, force Boeckman to be a playmaker. As for Ohio State's defense, they adjust well to most offenses, but spread the defense out. Take advantage of your speed and try to establish an effective offense. I must say if you do a good job of spreading the ball out and using Perriloux effectively, the offense may be pretty successful. Offense is going to be your biggest struggle in trying to figure out an effective game plan to run against the Buckeyes.

Actually that has been the knock on Miles for the past two year. He has been too conservative in big games, i.e. Florida06 and Auburn 06. 3 yards and a cloud of dust will not cut it in Tigerland.

i put 8 or 9 in the box at all times and make the quarterback beat me. im confident that our db's can match up well with the receivers of OSU. I think if you look at our run defense we are one of the best in the nation. McFadden torched us because well he is McFadden and most yards came when he lined up in the qb position. I think we will be healthy and ready for a running attack and i think that favors us. I think our defense is better suited to face your offense then your defense is facing our offense but......

offense is where i am concerned. Matt Flynn will be back and he is hit weak or miss. If he starts off slow, we are in for a long game. if we can come up with a gameplan where we take alot of time off of the clock, take 4 yards here, 5 there, 6 here, 7 there, 3 here, and continue to just slowly pick up yards without making stuid mistakes then i think we have a good chance of wearing your defense out with our 3 very skillied rb's. But i dont think this will happen, i think that our offense will run hester up the middle way too much, and flynn will try and throw the deep ball too much, when he has 10 and 15 yard reads that are more open. im very interested on seeing this game and how it unfolds.

How to beat OSU:

To stop their offense: crowd LOS putting 8 or 9 in the box to stop the running attack. Blitz QB on obvious passing downs an see if he can make some plays. If OSU startes being consitstant on picking up the blitz, nickle and dime them to death an rely on the DLine to get pressure on QB and LB/Secondary to be discipline in their assignments. Basically, make the QB beat you with is arm.

To beat their defense: strength of this D is the linebackers so make them less important. I would go with a 3 to 4 wide-out spread look. LSU needs to self scout and do some opposites of tendencies. Throw from I formation and run more draws with Williams or Scott from a spread formation. They will be expecting some spread formations and will probably blitz in those obvious pass situations unlike last year NCG. On obvious pass, I would bring in Zinger and Dixon and maybe only run 2 man routes. I think Byrd and Doucet matchup well with OSU's corners and can beat them in man2man situations.

They are going to try and make MF/RP beat them and that is a good thing for LSU becuase head2head I think LSU has the better quarterbacks.

If we try to hit plays off tackle, we'll be toast. We need to be able to run between the tackles (as hard as that might be if Dorsey is healthy) to be successful. Beanie is much more effective if he gets a little hole between the tackles and then can work to make the LBs or DBs miss.

Honestly, depending on Dorsey's health, with RJF back and a 100% Dorsey, there will be no love trying to run up the middle. The only team that had some success doing that when Dorsey was healthy was Florida and it only lasted for 1/2 of the game.

Thus, the off tackle idea, Matcar. Obviously you gotta go at the middle to keep things honest, but that probably shouldn't be the bread and butter.

Edit: That said, if you run at the middle, and it works... well.. then keep running at it
