Yeah 5 games off hurt his stats this year. The biggest thing about Doucet is not the stats but he is a gamer. He is very dependable when the game is on the line. Early had 770 yards in last year's campaign playing behind a 1st round draft pick Dwayne Bowe with 990 yards.
remember, do not use 1,000 yards as a benchmark for how good LSU's receivers or backs really are but to illustrate you how good hester is, he is over 1000 yards sharing the majority of carries with 3 other running backs.

I don't care what an LSU fan says about running up the gut against Dorsey and their DTs...I know it's hard. But it'll likely be worse if we go wide of tackle much. Yeah, it's gonna be hard, but if we win, it'll be because we were able to run between the tackles more that outside of them IMO.Buckeyeskickbuttocks;1020460; said:Thus, the off tackle idea, Matcar. first off I'd like to say that Jenkins will take away Duecette. I have no doubt about it either. Sure early is talented, but there has not been one game where Jenkins was exploited so far since he's been a college athlete. I think Laffel (or whatever) could give Washington some problems but I think that should be a 50/50 match up. They'll both make their play...I'm not going to lie I would run the ball anywhere on LSU. You can't look at dorsey and say "well he's there so lets go there" sometimes you'll just have to challenge dorsey. Dorsey is very talented and he'll make his plays but just limit what the others do. I think our line, as big as it is, will win most of the battles up front. LSU will make theirs but we have to capitalize on our chances. the more I look at this game the more I start to believe LSU has the players but OSU has the intangeables. Things like coaching, motivation, and discipline can't be stressed enough in a game like this.. OSU's players are very talented in their own rights, but I think we have the "eye of the tiger" (no-pun intended)which is what could put us over the top
as far as LSU's reciever corp's against us... I would run crossing routes, as well as things down the seems. Those tend to be what we struggle with. I would not recommend going deep or tryin to hit the home run ball often because we have a tendancy to play deep in the secondary to prevent that.

I lost all my confidence in Boeckman keeping his cool under pressure in the final 2 games. I would say that LSU would need to do their best to take away the running game and put as much pressure on Todd throwing the ball as they can. If they can get him running scared again and shut down Beanie they have a good shot.

Tressel will gauge Boeckman and tweak the game plan to suit his comfort level. I think we'll start the game off slinging it all over the place, and if we have some level of success, spread it out and start handing the ball of to Beanie and Mo. We've passed to set up the run more often this year than the other way around.

I said in the Michigan thread that Boeckman would be the key to that game. Lloyd Carr obviously read my post, and made some deal with God to have it rainy, crappy weather that day. That took Boeckman out of the game. Of course, God, being a Buckeye fan, knew that Beanie was all that was needed to beat Michigan.
So, in this thread, I'm going to switch 'er around. Stopping Beanie will be the key for LSU. Stop Wells at the line of scrimmage. If he has troubles running, and Ohio State becomes a one-dimensional team, LSU will be sitting pretty. Their defense is far too good even when they DON'T know what the offensive play is. But if Beanie gets going, and the offensive line is opening big holes for him, Ohio State's offense is going to be deadly. Play-action deep passes won't necessarily score touchdowns, but they'll keep LSU's safeties playing deep. And Beanie will get 9-10 touchdowns. Ok - maybe not really that many.
On the other side of the ball, LSU should spread Ohio State's defense, and run straight up the middle. And don't be afraid to throw deep often - Ohio State's defensive backs (except for Jenkins) are getting their pictures inserted into the "Book of Quotes", under the heading, "That's why they play defense." How many sure interceptions have been dropped this year? Don't expect to complete many of those deep passes, but if you don't throw them, the backs will be able to make plays on the running game.

i agree with the stacking the box stuff, but only on 1st down. in 2nd and long situations, Tressel has gone to the TE's more and more this year, and it really hasn't worked out at all. i'd try to force as many 2nd and long situations as possible, and then back everybody off and stick a safety into coverage.
on offense, i'd test the middle of the line early in the game with hester, and if that had any success, i'd keep doing until we brought up our LB's and then do a bunch of off tackle and short pass stuff with doucet and holliday.
