How would you gameplan against OSU

OCbuckfan- Exactly what I was thinking...

Not to sound like a downer but right now OSU can probably match LSU talent for talent but LSU's talent is far more matured and battle tested (especially this year). I truely believe it will be the coaches who decide this game. My guess is Les Miles will gamble and Jim Tressel will just play borederline conservative (although not ultra conservative).

I am not trying to be a downer, I have seen both play, LSU has been in prime-time a few times this year, they have a TON of playmakers. Before the Illinois team I might have had a different thought, but I think LSU has the most talent in a position that counts, they have the better quarterback.

But, Coaching, I am going to give a huge advantage to us. Look, we don't take chances were they aren't needed, we'll play for the tie and expect them to try for the win instead.

If Miles just uses his playmakers and plays a conservative game, they could run away with this game, but I don't think that's in him, he likes to be flashy and show off. Seeing LSU's two losses, can you say either team was better? had more talent? no, if Miles doesn't try to show off they win both of those games. Kentucky, why not run more? Arkansas, why not play a traditional defense and not fall for all the gimmick plays thrown at them?

LSU has the best talent in the country, it hurts me to say, but if they play wood/bo style football they will win. Can Miles do that is the question.

WOW! Amazing what an outsider sees. There are times we feel our offense is too conservative. We have gone through stretches where we have looked really vanilla. So much so that people in the stands/watching on TV can fairly accurately predict what play is called by the formation. Lundquist and Danielson (CBS announcers) were even telling America what play we were running during the Arkansas game.

I think if you went over that game, you could see that theres plays he could have just ran the ball and gotten 4, done that over and over again, or with the talent you have at QB and receiver, just do 5 yard passes over the middle and just ran the clock. That was what I thought during the game though.

Out of curiousity, do you guys have a forum for games? I want to download some and compare them with the speed of osu.

and for the record, Vanilla isn't a bad thing, to quote Woody "Three things can happen when you pass the ball, and two of them are bad"

i remember that. what did daneilson say? "this is the QB draw formation" i believe. my friends and i were all over that too.

i think the guys here are referring more to the late throw against auburn/4th downs vs Kentucky in the clutch. if les goes gunslinger cowboy on JT he will eat his lunch (IMO)

There may be some out there somewhere, but I have no clue where to even look.

I would like to maybe run more than 1 or 2 plays out of any given formation. When Verne Lundquist tells the world "LSU lined up in the I formation, going to run Hester off left tackle"......"Here's the snap, Hester to the left of the center gets about 2-3" in that case, we're a little too predictable.

yep... I believed that as well. However Les' gambles have really payed off this year with florida, auburn, South Carolina, and Alabama. The games they've lost to Arkansas, and kentucky have been not about gambles to me those were about poor gameplaning. Either way I'm surprised the risky behavior of Les hasn't cost ya'll more games.

That is a good idea. I'd like to see the LSU-Virginia Tech game again myself so that i can remember what we looked like when we were healthy. Anybody out there with a copy that can make a torrent? I'll even leave ya rep point if i can figure that stuff out, or am i aloud to do that? lol

I don't have the game but don't watch the Va Tech game as a barometer...

I have lived and been forced Va tech for the past 5 years because of living near blacksburg, and trust me this is not a Va tech team like the past. Just go see where the Va Tech offense ranks in college football. My best friend who follows them as closely as I do the buckeyes can't stand their offensive coordinator (steinspring). He tells me (and I've seen) va tech's line is AWFUL, their running game is AWFUL, their team discipline is bad, and their QB situation is a disaster. If you truely wanna see how we'll compare watch tennessee against them. Tech was destroyed in that game not because of how great LSU played but because Tech is just plain and simple not as good as they are made out to be. Yes they are #3 but go back and just look at their games and you'll understand what I'm saying. Tech's defense in that game was plagued by personal foul's, and I was a little surprisd how poorly Tech's defense Played. Especially on 3rd down.

Also watch tulane and their running back against LSU's defense the week after the tech game and it could be how beanie might fair. The tulane back is pretty big, but lacks anything OSU has as far as offensive line goes.

I mean tennessee has a QB like ours (pocket passer), good oline, bigger tailbacks, and a good d-coordinator. I'd say watch the tenessee game but just remember we have a better running game and better defense. Also LSU in that game was a bit banged up so I think it might even things out. I wouldn't be surprised if the score was 28-21 either way in the NCG.

The thing that most here are hitting on is that Tressel has been succesful against Miles in the past due to Miles riverboat gambling style. He didn't gameplan well for the 2004 Alamo Bowl against us(33-7) and if I were him id watch that game over and over to see how I could have coached differently against Tressel who's style will probably be about the same.(fairly conservative with tricks in the vest tucked away, which could be more due to the vanilla that was the beating of scUM) Special teams and turnovers were huge in the Alamo Bowl so ball control and special teams coaching would be a high priority. Les' style doesn't normally gameplan to protect the ball and have good field position(hence riverboat gambler). Also Ohio State got a fast start helping their cause. If that happens here it could be extremely hard to come back from plus you'd rather have us throwing to catch up to you.

I hear ya Nate... I was thinking the same thing... If Les doesn't go back and watch that 2004 tape the's a moron! In that case he probably won't watch it. I have a feeling we'll play defense similar to that game and we'll play close to the same on offense (remember zwick was the QB that game)..

If I knew, I would have told Lloyd Carr.

Seriously, have someone break Beanie's legs/kidnap Beanie/make sure Beanie doesn't play.

Or stack the box and jam the wideouts:wink:

I may be the minority on this but I want both teams at 100% so no matter who wins, the title will be undisputed.:)

I can't be the only one who finds it amusing the difference between what LSU and OSU fans want in terms of play-calling. True football to an Ohio State fan is smash-mouth football, running into and through the line, picking up chunks of yards at a time; Ohio State could not throw a pass all game and as long as the run works, you won't have any unhappy OSU fans.

Has it been that long since your last visit to Bucknuts?
