How many wins will RR need next year to keep his job?

How many wins will RR need to have in the 2009 season to keep his job at TSUN?

What do you need water for, Sunshine?
Most people, fans and critics alike, had written this season off for RR and TSUN, even before it began, as a rebuilding year. Any result would be accepted and forgivable. It was a foregone conclusion that no matter their win-loss record, RR would be the guy in charge, taking TSUN's football program forward for the foreseeable future.

Reality, though, has a way of sobering up the fans and giving ammo to the critics. TSUN's 2-5 record feels much worse in retrospect than everyone expected. The fact that TSUN is unlikely to play in a Bowl game this year is going to serve as a painful wake-up call for one of the most perennially delusional fan-bases in all of college football. Patience is starting to run out given RR's apparent inability to make incremental improvements and solidify his team. His "the players aren't stepping up" attitude as of the last few weeks is only accelerating his demise and undermining what little support he appears to have.

My feeling is that next year could be his final year at TSUN if this keeps up. With his honeymoon season out of the way, he is going to be facing a do-or-die situation. Even a venerable program like TSUN only has so much time and patience for a continued show of incompetence from a man who had been cast as a reformer and savior.

The question, then, is how much leeway is RR going to be given next year. The fact that he will have to produce is, imo, indisputable. The level of achievement and the extent of his production is what remains to be seen.

How many wins will TSUN need to notch in its 2009 campaign for RR to keep his job?

If he beats ND, Sparty, and... tOSU......along with the games they're "supposed" to win, he'll stick around.

So that's what... seven, eight, nine wins in all? The rub is the "supposed to win" bit because they're definitely setting the lowest of expectations in terms of the rankings they're going to garner coming into next year.

The million dollar question is how much of scUM's current suckage could've been avoided if they just played a more conventional game. I haven't watched every minute of every game, but c'mon... if they ran out of a pro set and just hit people they would've beaten Utah and Toledo.

Agreed... the legend of Ryan Mallett didn't need to come to such an abrupt end. Sometimes they go too deep when trying to start anew with these regime changes.

Well lets take a look at the rest of this season.

MSU-The worst thing that could have happened to Michigan is OSU blowing Sparty out. I think Sparty gets them...2-6...should be 2-7

Purdue Not a gimmie game but I think Michigan can get them in a close game. 3-6

NW toss up game

OSU and Minny are losses IMO...they will end up 4-8 maybe 5-7 this year.

Next year they may be better on offense but they lose some key defenders. They lose TT and Jamison on the D-line. They lose Trent, Harrison, and Stewart if I am not mistaken. Their defensive depth sucks...it will be even worse next year.

I haven't looked at their OOC schedule for next year but IMO ND beats them. I think they lose 5-7 games next year. Offense will be better but the defense will be worse.

I figure RR needs to get 7 wins next year, but as I think about it.. He could probably get away with little to no progress next year because TSUN fans are getting comfortable with losing and come to expect it. I like the idea that he could take a pro job as well, it'd be pretty funny to see it happen.

We havent beat him yet. Dont forget OSU looked like shit JT's first year too, and most people probably thought they would beat us pretty easily. I wouldnt dig his grave just yet lol. Not to mention that they paid a shit ton of money to get him, and they wont be willing to pay out like that again any time soon.
