11 teams in the field.
Due to the way the brackets were set up, they could've placed as many as nine teams in the Sweet Sixteen.
With the Marquette-Syracuse and Cincinnati-Connecticut matchups in the Round of 32, they are guaranteed at least two teams in the Round of 16.
They'll need Notre Dame to beat Florida State to get a third.

How many times does Pitt have to choke away a top seed in the early rounds before they stop rewarding them with these cushy starts?

I agree about the reverse bump, but this was also a tough draw. Definitely the toughest 8/9 line in the field and arguably tougher than the second round draw for many of the #2 and #3 seeds in the field.

So at this point the correct answer is either 2 or 3 of the 11 BEast teams will make the S16. Shockingly low for that many teams, especially since most of them had seeds that made it workable to make the S16.
