Today was a good one. Got caught up on a couple of things, and got a head start on some others. Just wish the rain would stop so I could catch up on the yard work when I get home this evening.

It is Monday and rainy...should be pretty obvious.

I used to love these kinds of days because it meant not as busy and we weren't running usually. Now I can't stand these days because I'm in a different set of shoes, so to speak.

They let 18 people go today, which is just a little under 20% of our firm. Very interesting mood in the office.

My boss, who is supposed to sit down with us and go over our reviews/raises/bonuses, decides that he's too busy trying to sell his house than meet with us.

When I questioned him about reviews/raises he says if your pay is different from what it was its correct.

Accept? Whatever you feel is right.

Depends upon the situation.

If you need to get the hell out, then at least equal to what you're making.
If you're in a good place and someone offers you, then you want no less than a 10% increase and typically 20% to make sure that you don't use it to negotiate for more at your present job.

FWIW, one thing to keep in mind, you will typically have one opportunity at most to tell your present employer that you've been offered a job and they'll negotiate to keep you. After that, you're marked and it will be a situation to be aware of in the future.

Lots of options, but like fan4life said, it really comes down to what feels right.

Good advice being offered up on the raise by Bux and Muffler. Personally, I made a lateral salary switch just to leave a bad company and situation. Ideally you always want to be able to increase your salary, but sometimes other non financial scenarios need to be considered.

My suggestion is to do your due diligence in reviewing the company you would be going to. Understand what your future has the possibility of looking like there. See if you can find out the inside scoop on what it is like to work there and how they really treat their employees.
