How does work make you feel today?

Man it's gonna suck ass..

I work from 2-10 tonight and have 2 functions that will be going on in the club house, one is a christian youth group of about 100 kids, and the other is a wedding reception...shoot me now

and on top of that, I get to come back and work tomorrow morning at 6am, so once I finally leave and get home it'll be closer to 11:30, then got to wake up at 5...can't wait for Tuesday to come

Depends upon the situation.

If you need to get the hell out, then at least equal to what you're making.
If you're in a good place and someone offers you, then you want no less than a 10% increase and typically 20% to make sure that you don't use it to negotiate for more at your present job.

FWIW, one thing to keep in mind, you will typically have one opportunity at most to tell your present employer that you've been offered a job and they'll negotiate to keep you. After that, you're marked and it will be a situation to be aware of in the future.

Lots of options, but like fan4life said, it really comes down to what feels right.

Expect? None.
Negotiate for? The sky.
Accept? Whatever you feel is right.

Good advice being offered up on the raise by Bux and Muffler. Personally, I made a lateral salary switch just to leave a bad company and situation. Ideally you always want to be able to increase your salary, but sometimes other non financial scenarios need to be considered.

My suggestion is to do your due diligence in reviewing the company you would be going to. Understand what your future has the possibility of looking like there. See if you can find out the inside scoop on what it is like to work there and how they really treat their employees.

Thanks for the advice. This was an offer from a company I had wanted for a few months. I asked if it was negotiable and got a no back. According to Monster's salary distribution for my job i am well ahead of the game.

I took an 11% raise (I am switching jobs due to relocation), but got also got an increase in bonus and vacation. On the downside, I will no longer be working from home.

I am sitting back watching our leadership work as we get ready to release a new version of our software that includes new offerings. We are a SaaS company so when we release new versions you take everyone offline for whatever time frame it takes to upgrade the existing version.

Now, when I was getting my Master in Management we always discussed organizations need to plan. When I have led organizations there has always been a plan. So, I guess it strikes me as odd that there seems to be no plan in place for this roll out. There is no specific release date, only in a week or two, depending on testing results. Accordingly there is no available plan for the following:

  • Marketing blast
  • Pricing for new modules
  • Contacting clients to provide them with specific details
  • A rollback scenario in case the release fails
And, I am just going to go back to the fact that there is no specific release date and we are internally a week or two out from when they want to release it.

Call me crazy but this just seems like a disaster waiting to happen.

Plans are for sissies!!!

Your leadership is clearly very skilled at what they do, and I'm sure they have a plan, but the little people such as yourself just wouldn't be able to understand it in all its complex, brilliant glory.

Yeah. Let us know when it all comes crashing down, will ya?

I have to say I'm loving the new job. Mostly, what I've done in the past month is print things out and put them in binders. That, and let people bounce ideas off me. They generally know what needs done, so I don't really have to exert too much brain power.

It's extremely weird for me to work someplace where my opinion is not just valued, but sought. That drove me nuts when I was a lab manager. I have master's degrees in both microbiology (I was the only bacteriologist in the research group) and business (only MBA in the entire department--including the administrator), but God help me if I gave advice on either topic--at best, I'd be ignored. At worst, I'd actually get reprimanded. Here, people may tell me my thoughts are retarded--and I'm OK with that--but at least they listen.

Best part is, I've ditched the assholes with whom I used to work.

Worst part is, I'm now responsible for making sure that any of about 350 people don't screw up our clean compliance record. No pressure :)

Ha ha ha....It has already started...the new release has been delayed over a month because it is not stable. The head developer is taking close to a month off so that has increased the delay. Still no word on any of the other parts....

The state of Alabama is jealous that my wrath is directed only at RITA today and decides to get in on the action. C*ckh*les.

Yup, forgot to pay part of my taxes to Gahanna. I pay them, and I get another notice, the late fee/processing fee is due now. And it's more than what I owed Gahanna  :smash:

What a bunch of cocksuckers. Oh, it's an XX% penalty.....oh........ but there's a minimum of $25. Not even the IRS is that unreasonable.

 Thanks, I needed a laugh.

They (IRS) just tried to fine our company 20% for the correct documentation being submitted with our full payment on time. I am not sure that is really reasonable.

Seems perfectly reasonable to me since it isn't my problem.
