How does work make you feel today?

The position I took with my current company isn't what it was made out to be. The company has been projecting and preaching growth that just isn't happening. Many of my co-workers across the enterprise and even at different positions are expressing a ton of dissatisfaction. Micro-management, over burdened workforce, disconnect between upper management/leadership, pay grade that is lagging behind industry standards. A lot of the things that were advertised and initially attractive are far and way, a total farce. Like I said, I'm glad to be back in State. I'm closer to my family and my ailing grandparents.

While I have a great deal of love for Cleveland, the opportunities just aren't there. It's high time I looked at heading back down to Columbus. That at least would allow me the flexibility of a better job market and being able to maintain a decent mileage from family (God Forbid) in the event of an emergency.

What field are you in?

I transferred from SoCal/Central Cali back to Cleveland and found the area surrounding to be much more promising than I had expected, leaps and bounds overall for higher level positions than it was in say 2009 or so.

I'm not refuting that it's certainly better than 09'. It very much is.
I do appreciate the cost of living being much more reasonable than what DC/noVA was.

I'm currently in IT processes. Server side maintenance and data migration. I wanted to get into IT business strategy's. Apparently futile unless I carry an Ivy League MBA.

My biggest issue is that I've had such a diverse work and education history that I'm pretty damn good at just about anything I apply myself too. However I have no specific concentration that's been mastered.

Maybe the problem is that I've started my searches for new positions at times that are not the most ideal hiring periods?

Definitely possible - with most mid year company reviews happening next month I'd expect an influx of more experienced positions to open up in late July. Don't know much on IT processes so not sure how Cleveland matches up with Columbus but wish ya luck either way!

Columbus > Cleveland in that regard. I mean, at this point I'd even go back to running a gym. That however isn't really anywhere as big a market here as the DC crowd. Not even comparable, sadly.

There are nights, like tonight, that make me wonder why I even bother trying to get people to do their damn jobs right anymore. If they aren't going to give a shit, and if the managers above me don't give a shit to enforce their own damn standards they wrote and made such a big deal about, then why should I care if our group is made to look like fools because people aren't capable of showing some personal initiative and doing their fucking jobs right. I can't be here 24/7, I can't write their entries into tickets for them that actually describe what they did, I don't have time to read every damn ticket in the queue to see which ones they screwed up.

I'm really getting tired of cleaning up stupid shit left by allegedly functional adults.

I see it's really no different across the street, hopefully the mgmt above you is competent enough not to implement completely outrageous and useless "standards". It sucks fighting to get folks to do things you both know are dumb and useless.

I think I've hit that complete burnout point. I would rather just leave than do anything today, and it has been a bit of a struggle to find motivation the entire week. I need that week vacation tomorrow, not 3 weeks from now.

3 straight days of closing shifts, which is fine by me, since they're so ridiculously easy and laid back. Just 3 more days and then I'm off for a nice 8 day vacation back up to Ohio (with a quick overnight at Niagara Falls).

Nevermind, I lied. Tonight is shaping up to be the shift from hell. The weather has been crappy, which means it is taking way longer to complete my work, and to top it off I was just called a racist. This woman (maybe Middle Eastern in descent? I have no clue) just comes up to me and requests to take a survey, which we can't do. I try to explain our random method policies to her to make her understand that no matter what she says or does, I can't take her feedback (Nevermind that 99% of our surveys are just email collections to send you a survey online a week or two later). So she goes up to my team lead who is collecting surveys just in front of me, and is told pretty much the same thing. She comes back more ticked off (left her stroller and daughter next to me), I try and direct her to Guest Relations to give her feedback, at which point she starts going off and says something like "am I not the right color? You're racist, really, aren't you." And then threatens to report the two of us to "the CEO of Disney World," a person I've never heard of and who is definitely not in our executive tree (also tried to give her the correct name to contact, she wouldn't listen).

Ugh. 5:15pm Tuesday cannot get here soon enough.

Maybe we need a new term to throw back at people who like to reach for the upper hand with that insult.

Would it work to reply "Well, you're a racism-monger."
