Herbstreit in the DOG house..

I don't want to be part of this argument, dammit..I like Herbie and I have nothing but respect for the guy. He does his job very well and usually without bias...I was just a little irked when he spoke out like he did because a great deal of it was personal to him and I just think he should have toned it down a bit....

Other than that, I could give a crap if he criticizes OSU. That's his job....without the personal stuff, of course.

Man, some of you guys are a bunch of spazzes! You're obviously not going to change PenguinBuck's mind on Herbie, so what's the point of "fighting to the death to defend his right to say it"? We're all smart enough to turn on the computer, navigate to the site and read the forum for ourselves, so just let a post stand for itself without the need to interject how smart and objective you all are. A truly stupid post will be recognized as such without any help from veteran posters who want BP to be their own little BN-realm.

I for one agree that Herbie often shows a lack of objectivity toward OSU, precisely because he's trying to be so objective for a national audience. I think that's exactly why he's picked against us in many specific instances; and really, I think he's been harsher on the Bucks on his 1460 show than GameDay (this is all pre-scUM rout, of course, since nobody's complaining about the offense anymore). He flat-out said, repeatedly, that JT needs to fire Bollman and give up the playcalling duties: this sounds less like criticism than advice from someone who thinks he has more sway than he does--and JT/AD clarified his outsider status quite nicely.

It's interesting to note that prior to today, my last remarks on the thread were dated 11-18-2004, 08:26 PM. Mili's were on 11-18-2004, 07:38 PM. It seemed logical to me to let the whole thing drop because everyone had agreed to disagree. Penguin, who nearly made his post total from this thread alone decided to drag it back up a week after it was over with no more than a ****ing contest to back up his argument. Flaming anyone?

Way to get on the site and use your second post to inform everyone else as to HOW they should be posting, though. Beautiful.

The good news is they usually don't stay long. Post a few times and head back to BN

I'd say most of the vets are trying to prevent that from occuring. If this was a BN realm, this thread would have been nuked pages ago. That's not a slam on BN at all. We just do things a little differently over here...if these guys see a value in arguing their point to the death, then have at it. Its for neither you nor I to decide the value of such an activity.

We're also all smart enough to realize we didn't need that little recap of what just happened on this thread.

What do they day about taking your own advice?

You are absolutely right. Oh... and for the Newbies. :stupid:

Buckinghorse and Oiler display exactly the kind of high-post-count self-righteous superiority that makes BN such a fascist community. Post counts mean nothing: they only expose how much time posters waste trying to display their own genius in an anonymous void. Heaven forbid someone with less than 1000 posts try to point out that some long-timers are beating a dead horse and being downright mean...

"Its for neither you nor I to decide the value of such an activity."

If it is indeed "for" those guys to argue to the death to prove an opposing viewpoint is idiotic, then the value of that activity is certainly within the realm of acceptable discussion for you and for I. :roll2:

Kevin, get a clue. If you don't like us "fascist communities", then get out. You may very well be a highly intelligent poster, with a lot of insightful things to say, and colorful ways of saying them, but I highly doubt it. You're the one coming over to a new board, and slamming long-time posters of good standing. If you think you can pull that shit without getting smacked down, then you're dumber than your post indicates.

Before you go off on some opinionated tangent, look at your situation. You have 4 posts, all of which are basically ripping into posters that I respect, regardless of their post count. If you want to be respected, then say something with value in it. Otherwise, complain all you want, but do it on Bucknuts.

When a poster tells me to "fuck off" in so many words, he's is going to get a full-blast retaliation. I also don't appreciate being called a "Herbstreit homer" when in fact I've been critical of him in the past at times as well as being supportive of his anaylsis other times. By the way, please explain to us just how someone can show a lack of objectivity by being too objective. Two words came to mind when I read that: Fuckin' moron.

Mili....Herbie has bent over too far backward to appear unbiased in his opinions on Ohio State. That is an honest mistake. But when Herbie criticized the BCS process and then cited his evidence for this opinion by saying that the "last 2 national champions have not been determined on the field"....then he's gone way too far

Herbie didn't say this just once, he has now said it twice. Immediately after the Sugar Bowl last year and again on Saturday, 12/4/04 in the College GameDay show. He said that OSU should have had to play USC in '02 and that LSU and USC should have squared off in '03......in order "decide it on the field"

that stinks and Herbie should be called out on this

I'm going to stop short of saying Herbie has sold his soul for $600 K per year....but BARELY short
