Well, that doesn't really mean anything, because the image could have been color corrected, gamma corrected, balanced ... and so on and so on. Whether it was digital photo or a print photo then scanned, there is no way to know whether the color presented in that picture is correct.

Frankly, I don't know what the question is about. If HAYN says the leaves on his own helmet were black, then I'll believe they were black. If he says the leaves on his own helmet were green, then I'll believe they were green.

Some members of this site have been on the team. It shouldn't be that hard to figure it out. :tongue2:

They're definately black. I remeber passing a bunch of players on the field after Chapter 1 of "Troy Smith: Buckeye Legend", and up close they were definately black.

But if you don't believe the guy that actually played on the damn team, you're definately not going to believe me.

I'm sure they use both colors and every variation of black/green in between, which is why there is so often a disparity in photographs and why this question keeps getting kicked around.

The helmets are stripped and repainted every single game, then fresh new stickers are reapplied. The colors of the leaves themselves, as well as their size/shape probably change from game to game based on printing batch, let alone season to season due to planned changes in the design, much like the uniform.

Also, the stickers are thick, almost like buttons, with a high gloss white undercoat. The leaves could very well be forest green, and the combination of the depth and the gloss finished print would cause the leaf to appear a brighter green when viewed directly in sunlight but appear gloss black in artificial light or when viewed at an angle.

The ones show from the link hayn provided are (no doubt at all) black. This assumes that the coachtressel.com site is providing a picture of a standard Buckeye helmet.

Here's the picture. If you agree that the stripe on the helmet is black, then the buckeye leaf is black as well. If you think the stripe is green, then we need to party sometime!

The stripe lists (where the finger points) the 4 Color components as:
C=44%, M=48%, Y=47% and K=98%

The leaf lists (where the finger points) the 4 Color components as:
C=45%, M=48%, Y=47% and K=97%

I used the lightest portion of both the stripe and leaf so that shadowing effects would be limited and not skew the results towards black. Both formulations of color are as near identical as could be expected. Finally, the colors are listed as C (cyan), M (magenta), Y (yellow), and K (black). The value for black is almost 100% ... a dead give a way that the color could ONLY be black. Any amounts of C, M or Y added to the formulation would only make the black "richer" ... in essence, darker.

If you look closely at the pic HAYN posted, they're dark green and could easily appear as black. The only final proof will come after we beat Michigan on Nov 18 and I'm on the field to take a couple photos of our victorious helmets up close and post them for all to see. Also, the stickers do indeed fade. I have a couple on my car (both license plates and on my windshield next to my base access stickers) and they leaves are near black although they were originally a medium dark green.
