HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

This is either one of two things.

- A lie and something to calm the nerves of the staff as we move into the post-season.

- A foolish, short-sighted decision that fails to take in the last 6 years.

Bjork referenced the "championship or bust" mentality. Somebody needs to tell our AD we can't even get past scUM.

option 3: He knows Day is looking to jump to the NFL so this will be out of his hands.

remember that his buyout is huge and there doesnt' seem to be appetite for buyout north of $35M + $20ish million for NIL ...

It's along the lines of option 1

He isn't going to send the message to the players, potential new players and coaches that Day is coaching for his job. That would be stupid.

The very fact that the new AD has made two statements about the HC's job tells you that the HC's job is in serious question
Completely agree, if we fire him right now then the amazing recruiting class that we had come in and several key coaches may leave. Exhibit A would be Downs and McLaughlin coming to OSU after Saban retired. Not to mention we have to see what plays out in the CFP first. Plus Day may be recognizing he would be a better coach in the NFL and is not cut out for this job, and it may be a mutual parting if it comes to it.

As angry as we all are about The Game (especially you and I), bottom line for right now we need to focus on beating UT in the Shoe and running the damn table. The dust will settle and conversations will need to be had regardless, but for now I just want to see us win and advance.

That's how I think it ends generally speaking. Too much money on the table and too much to be lost for both sides by going hard-ass route.

They will work a negotiated exit, he will get on with the "next phase of his career' type thing barring a NC run (I laughed as I typed that).

I don't care what line of work you are in, the second time your boss tells you "you're not getting fired" you are getting fired.

Agreed - he's trying to keep people from transferring out, and trying to keep good recruits coming in.
I don't think that an announcement that Ohio State has a bar it has to meet or the coaches are fired is a good message to send, at this point. Wait until the playoffs are over before you announce some decisions.
Exactly, if you jump the gun to prove a point about beating ttun (which I think we all initially wanted but we're not an AD that owes a duty to the program moving forward) then it does more harm than good.

Throw in that we may be eating crow if we make it to the title or win it. I doubt that seriously, but either way it would be a premature decision and it's better for the team to wait to see how the CFP goes.

I won't mind eating that crow because I'll be doing it off Jessica Alba's ass.

Just listening to these Bjork interviews, there's no way Day is fired before next season.* He is doubling down and supporting Day to the fullest.

*An ugly, blowout loss to Tennessee could always change things, though. But even with a close loss, I don't seem him making a change. He is intent on at least keeping the status quo while simultaneously trying to improve on it. We'll see how it goes, I guess.

No idea where to post this so I thought it best here.

The fact that two transfers from Alabama are our only two All Americans is so disappointing to me. We had all these returning starters and none of them got All American.

Wild to me…
If it weren't for those two, we would have been in trouble this season. Simmons may have been an AA if healthy all year, but to the same point he was a transfer as well.

I get what you are saying for sure and the reality is that is one thing to recruit, it is another thing to develop the talent and have proper scheme/play calling. I won't pretend that there is zero development (i.e. WR), but certain groups have been disappointing. Then scheme and play calling in big games...Day has been routinely bad at it.

I know Bjork seemingly wants to keep status quo as a new AD but the reality is if we don't win the Natty, then that makes us 0 for 3 on our goals...yet again. At least Urban and Tress would be 2 for 3 most years during there tenure.

I could see our new Swedish Chef not wanting to disrupt the current money cannon as about the only plausible way Day is here in '25.

My fear there is the erosion of the actual roster that drives the money cannon all of a sudden going from suck to blow. The '25 schedule looks like it's tougher at a quick glance and if this OL& ST deterioration is allowed to continue, we could wake up one day next year and not just be at risk in the "big" games.

It happened under Earl. It can happen under this slappy.
