HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

What year was it that he called the 4th down option play in The Game with a QB who ran like he was in a bomb squad suit?
Probably 1990, if you're thinking of Greg Frey. Maybe 1992, but I think Frey was there from 1988 to 1990. So maybe it was 1988.

I agree that Frey was not the quarterback to run that play, but I didn't think Krenzel was the quarterback to run that play in 2002, either. It worked out pretty well for him, but I think it's more that I was wrong than that sometimes you can catch the defense off-guard with curveballs like that.

Krenzel mobility >>> Frey mobility

curve.....balls? like, you go against tendencies and take advantage of teams who are calling defenses based on what you usually run out of certain formations or in certain situations? interesting idea.

Are you thinking of the triple option call with Bobby Hoying against Tennessee in 1996?

No, (god I had forgotten that one)

I think it was The Game 1990 (?), we were in a position to win if we get 4th and 1 from our 40 or so. Coop, super aggressively for that day and time, decides to go for it.

Announcer Voice: He didn't get it.

tsun used the field position gift to kick the game winning FG.

It was a major league dong punch, not because he went for it but because of the fucked as hell play call. It was just horrific. Pretty sure that was The Game we rolled from into the Air Force debacle.

Greg Frey? 1990. My girlfriend at the time whole family were ttun fans because they vacationed at the UP supposedly. Pretty sure I didn't have to buy any Christmas gifts for that one. Then cheerleaders sure were flexible though

Here's the game and play I immediately thought of:

Go to about 2:20:50.
A pitch to the running back gets the first down.
It looks like it was 13-13 at that point. I'm not going to watch anymore, but I'm guessing Jaxbuck was right - The cheaters scored, somehow - I'll assume it's a field goal to win.

Not even going to watch that but that's the one.

If it was 13-13 and that dumb hick went for it on 4th & 1 in our own territory (with The Tin Man option play call) and gave them the game then it makes more sense why I was so infuriated by it 34 years ago. Forget what I said about giving him credit for going for it.

Lot's of parallels to the current guy being in over his head. This was the end of Coops 4th year and you didn't really need to see any more. I know I didn't. Some guys just don't have it and are never going to find it while they are on the clock.

This is either one of two things.

- A lie and something to calm the nerves of the staff as we move into the post-season.

- A foolish, short-sighted decision that fails to take in the last 6 years.

Bjork referenced the "championship or bust" mentality. Somebody needs to tell our AD we can't even get past scUM.

It's along the lines of option 1

He isn't going to send the message to the players, potential new players and coaches that Day is coaching for his job. That would be stupid.

The very fact that the new AD has made two statements about the HC's job tells you that the HC's job is in serious question
