HC Ryan Day (2019 B1G Media COY)

I could see our new Swedish Chef not wanting to disrupt the current money cannon as about the only plausible way Day is here in '25.

My fear there is the erosion of the actual roster that drives the money cannon all of a sudden going from suck to blow. The '25 schedule looks like it's tougher at a quick glance and if this OL& ST deterioration is allowed to continue, we could wake up one day next year and not just be at risk in the "big" games.

It happened under Earl. It can happen under this slappy.
You mean “Earle?”

Just listening to these Bjork interviews, there's no way Day is fired before next season.* He is doubling down and supporting Day to the fullest.

*An ugly, blowout loss to Tennessee could always change things, though. But even with a close loss, I don't seem him making a change. He is intent on at least keeping the status quo while simultaneously trying to improve on it. We'll see how it goes, I guess.
Agree. And after a lot of consideration, I do as well. We simply don’t have the money to throw $35M at replacing a coach who is at least recruiting well and playing 85% W/L football. For richer, for poorer. He is our coach For at least 1 or 2 more seasons.

“Day is absolutely our coach next year”

What if they play like they did in the final game last year? Is he really even able to come back? Serious question.

This is kind of like how being put on a "Performance Improvement Plan" isn't a road map to get you back on track so you can keep your job after under performing...it's management and HR crossing their T's and dotting their I's showing that they gave you a chance in case you try to get litigious after you're fired.

And how when your boss tells you multiple times that you're not going to be fired, it's not a good sign. You're probably going to be fired soon.

I suspect that's also the case in a job like Day's when those kind of statements are made publicly.

Day better be coaching and gameplanning right now as if his job is on the line next Saturday, because it probably is.

No idea where to post this so I thought it best here.

The fact that two transfers from Alabama are our only two All Americans is so disappointing to me. We had all these returning starters and none of them got All American.

Wild to me…

I think it's a sign of an OBVIOUS culture problem in the WHAC. While disappointing, it doesn't surprise me much....we'll all miss Jack Sawyer and I think Treyveon has been a good leader and teammate this year.....I have questions about many of the other guys who came back and how motivated they were/are and what type of leadership they provide.

But ultimately, it falls on the HC....he's the one who recruited and retained this roster. Why it takes transfer portal players to reach AA status when he continually brings in top 3 classes is definitely disappointing.

Soft as an overripe banana and it carries over. This offense really should’ve been a fully functioning Death Star… and Day’s supposed to be/I guess was at some point an offensive stud… and still we get beat again by some hobo Ewoks.

Howard was under-used. He should’ve been a bigger Barrett who could actually sling it a little. The first actual dual threat we’d had since Fields. Nope.

Lauded as America’s best backfield, Judkins and Henderson were under-used. They should each have been well over 1K yds and we should’ve seen breakaway runs from Henderson like his freshman year. This duo should’ve been a faster, better version USC’s Bush and White. Instead, we got… Meh. For all the yapping about Kelly being a rushing attack genius, we got, yep, Meh or worse.

Our receivers were criminally under-used. Egbuka should’ve been a 1st or 2nd team AA and all but disappeared; I’m sure not by his choice or lack of effort. Tate was given a few chances and rose to the occasion, but didn’t get more of a chance than that. Smith overachieved just because he’s a freak of nature and why we almost deliberately avoided throwing to him at the end of the season will never sit right with me.

And then he says, after shitting the bed again and causing us to fail at two of the goals we all had carved in stone and heard him yap about every week, that the goal all along was to make the playoff and then goes on about NFL wild card teams getting hot in the playoffs. How many wild card teams have won the Souper Bowl? SIX! Six since 1970. Even making that analogy is just stupid.

The goal wasn’t to back into the playoffs after being clowned by tcun and missing the B1G championship game. To even suggest that just proves my initial premise. I’d rather hear you say what we all know, that we fucked around and are lucky to even have a playoff home game and we’re going to take advantage of that and ball out like we should’ve all year.

He better unleash the hell that we know is in the WHAC and shave that fucking beard. As Steve19 referenced, it all started to go to shit when he decided that he had to prove he was a tough guy and grew the beard.

It’s hard to do any of these things when you frequently take 4 downs to get first downs and use up 35 seconds on the play clock. The biggest failure IMO isn’t the targets for JJ or the numbers for the RBs it’s the tempo in which we play.

When you have an offense like this why would you want less snaps? Get to the line and snap the ball. You have the talent advantage on offense so now take a tempo advantage as well which wears down a defense, causes confusion, and leaves defenders out of place.

I know the worry is “well it’ll make the defense tired” and “well if you don’t get a positive play on first down you’re in trouble”. I would say with our defense the last thing a team wants is to play a catch up game. Also who cares if the first down play gets stuffed. Get to the line and go again and then again on third down. If you somehow go three and out (unlikely) then maybe play back ups for a few drives at a few positions on defense for a change or call a time out.

Bottom line is this should’ve been a top 3 offense and I think it is one of the most talented units still. However it’s hard to score 42 points and 500+ yards when you’re working in a 10 yard window and you’re milking the entire play clock. Never mind the fact that you’re leaving yourself with absolutely zero room for error. You had better score if you go slow.

My point exactly. If your strategy is bad, your tactics better be fucking great. We’ve sucked at both and, unlike some other years, I don’t blame the players at all this time.

Was there even one breakaway run this year? I can’t reach into the dark recesses of my brain and recall one. No 40-75 yard gallop to daylight.

And FFS it would be great to see a receiver TE turn up field and punish someone. Quit running the fuck out of bounds to avoid a hit and end up in 3rd in 1.
